The "Hot" Topic and It's Falling Together

Rantoul, IL.
77 deg. clear, SW wind @ 7 mph.
Forecast today = Sunny and hot. Near record highs in the mid 90s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph. Heat index readings around 100.

The weather continues to be the "hot" topic around here.  ;-)  The official temperature here in Rantoul was 97 degrees yesterday and my little thermometer, which is in the shade on the North side of me, read 98.4 degrees at one time. And, of course, the humidity is sky high too, making it really muggy. :-(

Linda talked to the salesman at the RV dealership yesterday and found out that the Newmar should be ready in a few more days. She told the salesman about the oven and he said it wouldn't be a problem if wasn't fixed by the time the trade was made. Also, Linda called the bank and found out that the necessary funds have been wired to their account, so that's all taken care of.

It really looks like this is falling together.

Jim talked to Louise yesterday and I think that when they return from the dealership with the Newmar, they're going to move to a site on the other side of the street. "Why would they want to do that", you ask?  Well, in this site, the RV is facing West with no afternoon shade. That doesn't matter too much with a trailer, but with a MH, the afternoon sun blasts right on the windshield and really heats things up inside. If parked on the other side of the street, the MH would be facing East and the only sun on the windshield would be in the morning before it gets really hot outside.

Jim and Linda always used to park me on the other side of the street, but moved to this side because of all the big trees over here. The problem is that those trees just don't give any shade for my windshield during the later part of the afternoon.

Oh, we almost had a small crisis here yesterday. You see, Jim was looking at the calendar and trying to figure out just when they would have to leave Rantoul to get to Sioux Falls, SD to get their drivers licence renewed. They have to get that accomplished before going to the family reunion in Wisconsin.  Well, the other day when Jim and Linda were packing stuff up, he packed up his pencil and big eraser!!!!

Oh No!!!! Now what???? Well, he dug around in the boxes in one of my cabinets and found a pencil with a little eraser. He says that will do for now until he can find the other one. :-)

So, when do they need to leave Rantoul? Well, they'd like to get out of here on or about the 22nd of this month but could stay until the 24th if necessary. You see, they want to get there and get their business done before the 4th of July weekend if possible and then just park somewhere for the holiday. Of course reservation will have to be made at that time, so they'll have to decide pretty soon where they want to stay.

Thanks For The Comments and Should Be Real Interesting

Rantoul, IL
65 Deg. partly cloudy, SE wind @ 4 mph.
Forecast today = Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 80s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.

First of all I'd like to thank all of you who left such nice comments on yesterday's blog.

I've done some checking and it seems that the easiest thing to do would be to just change the Title and leave the URL alone. Of course I still don't know if the new MH will want to do a blog, but I'm pretty convincing when I want to be. ;-)

Linda talked to the salesman over at the RV dealer yesterday and he said that the work on the new MH is coming along nicely and he thought that possibly around the 1st to middle part of next week it would be ready.

Also, Jim and Linda's investment counselor said that he thought he could get everything arranged by that time too, so it looks like things are falling together.

Jim did some more sorting, condensing and throwing away of basement stuff today, (between rain showers in the morning) and then came inside and did the same in a few cabinets. Meanwhile, Linda went through all of her embroidery stuff and sorted it as to projects done, waiting to be done and to be done, some day, and then packed it all away.

This move of stuff from me to the new MH should be real interesting. By what Jim says, I actually have more basement storage than it does, but it has storage under the bed inside that I don't have. I have two large medicine cabinets and it has two smaller ones. Jim says that he thinks there are more cabinets and drawers in the new MH but they're all different sizes than mine and located in different places/rooms.

I would imagine that for the first few months, Jim and Linda will be having a hard time finding many of their things. ;-o

For dinner, Jim cooked a steak on the grill and Linda cooked boiled potatoes and green beans on my stove. Again, it all sure smelled good and by what Jim and Linda were saying, it tasted good too. ;-)

New Glasses, and An Unexpected Trip

Rantoul, IL.
71 Deg. clear, no wind
Forecast today = high temp. 94 deg. mostly sunny, humid, light southeast winds.

Yesterday morning started with Jim heading over to Wally World to pick up his new glasses. While he was there, he picked up a few other items and then headed over to Rural King to pick up a few more items. When he got back here, Linda was just getting up and while she was getting dressed, he checked the voice mail on the phone and found out that Sue, from their Financial Adviser's office, had called and wanted to know if they could come up to Peotone for a 1:00 appointment.

Well, Jim asked Linda if she wanted to head up there, and it was decided that yesterday would be as good as any other day. So, Jim called Sue back and told her that they'd be there. Then, they both started scurrying around, getting everything together that they needed to take, and were grabbing a bite to eat.

In just a short time, they were heading out of my door, getting into CLT (Cute Little Truck) and driving out of the Campground.

Oh, I'll bet some of you are wondering about Jim's new glasses. Well, when he came back here, I though he still had his old ones on, but, they were the new ones!!! The new ones are exactly like the old ones!!

He says he can see better with the new ones though. :-)

By taking I-57 North up to Peotone, CLT says that it was about 12:30 by the time they arrived at the financial adviser's office, so Jim and Linda went ahead and went in and sat and talked to Sue for awhile. She's always interested in where we've been since she's seen them, and wants to hear all about our travels.

Their meeting lasted quite a while as they had a lot to talk about, so it was almost 3:00 by the time they were finished. Being that it was mid afternoon already, they were both a little hungry so they stopped by the Mayberry Junction Restaurant in Manteno, which is just 5 or 6 miles South of Peotone, and had some iced tea and a piece of pie.

The Mayberry Restaurant is decorated with all kinds of Andy Griffin photos and the menu features all kinds of dishes named after the shows characters and places. This restaurant used to be located in a small building up in Peotone, but moved to this new location a couple of years ago.

From there, they followed all 2 lane roads, (except to go around Kankakee on I-57), down here to Rantoul. By the time they got back near here, they were starting to think about dinner, so they stopped at the local KFC and picked up some chicken.

The evening was spent watching TV and playing with the computers.

Did you know that Friday the 13th occurs when the thirteenth day of a month falls on a Friday, which superstition holds to be a day of bad luck? In the Gregorian calendar, this day occurs at least once, but at most three times a year. Any month's 13th day will fall on a Friday if the month starts on a Sunday.

CLT Heads North, They're Coming, and Good News

Rantoul, IL
68 deg. partly cloudy, light winds.
Forecast today = high temp. 85 deg. mostly sunny, 20% chance of showers or t-storms this afternoon, W. winds @ 10 to 15 mph.

By 9:00 CLT (Cute Little Truck) was pulling out of the CG and taking Jim and Linda North on I-57. It was raining when they left, but CLT tells me that they ran out of the rain up by Gillman. By the time they got to Peotone, the roads were dry and there were even some breaks in the clouds.

Every time Jim and Linda go to Peotone, they like to drive around and look at the house they used to live in and see how much else has changed since they left the town in 2001. As they were driving around, they found Denny, (One of the Illinois Bunch), talking to Dave's son. Well, anyway, Jim and Linda stopped and talked to them for awhile, and when Denny found out that Jim and Linda were going to get something to eat before going to see their financial advisor, he suggested they go to the little cafe down-town and he would come and join them.

Well, that's what they did, and before Denny came to the cafe, he called Gordy and Dorthy, (more of the Illinois Bunch), and they came over and had breakfast too! CLT says they all sat around and ate and talked until it was time for Jim and Linda's appointment.

By noon, they were at their financial adviser's office and talking to the gals in the office. They're always interested in my travels during the past year, and enjoy hearing about our adventures. There were a lot of finances to talk about this year, so it was about 1:30 before they were finished. That gave CLT 1/2 hour to get Jim and Linda down to Kankakee and to Linda's retinaologist's appointment. Well, he made it, even though he had to go though some heavy rain along the way, and by about 1:55 he was dropping Linda off in front of the doctor's office.

At the doctor's office, everything went well, and I'm glad to announce that Linda's eyes are doing fine, and there is no further diabetic damage to them. :-) Linda was very relieved, to say the least, and very pleased.

By the time CLT got Jim and Linda back to Rantoul, they were hungry, so they stopped at the local Burger King and ate a couple of burgers. By the time they got back here to the CG, it was about 5:30.

A busy and productive day.

Oh, I forgot to tell you, Gordy and Dorthy are going to be able to come here to the park in July! The way it sounds, the whole "Illinois Bunch" will only be here at the same time for one day, but at least everyone will be coming. :-)

I really enjoy it when they come to see me.

What did I do all day, you ask? Well, I talked to the Motor Home across the street, and found out that he was made by the Coachman Company in 1987 and is from Ohio, (somewhere between Columbus and Cleveland), and has brought his owners here to visit with their son, that lives in the area. He'll be leaving here tomorrow, so I'm glad I got to spend some time talking with him before he leaves. I also watched some other RV come into the park, and watched Louise mow the grass around her site.

Oh, and I took a little nap too. ;-)

IN to IL, Prairie Pines, and Saving Money

Rantoul, IL
56 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 77 deg. partly sunny with a 30% chance of showers & t- storms. W. winds @ 10 to 15 mph.

We got an early start, (for us), yesterday morning and left the New Vision RV Park in Oaktown right at 9:00. We continued North on US 41, up to Terre Haute, where we turned West on I-70 and took it into Illinois and to Rt 1. Rt 1 took us up to Danville and I-74, where we again turned West, and took it over to Urbanna, where we turned North on US 45. 45 then brought us up here to Rantoul, IL, and the Prairie Pines Park.

It was 12:15 when we pulled up in front of the office, so it took us 3 hours and 15 minutes to travel 147 miles.

Prairie Pines is one of my favorite parks. The sites are very large with full hook-ups, each site has a cement patio with picnic table, there are lots of trees for shade, all of the park is very well maintained with huge grassy areas, and Jim and Linda's friends, Paul and Louise run the park. If you remember, we stopped and visited Paul and Louise, where they winter, at a CG near San Antonio when we came through there this winter.

So, here I am, getting comfortable for our stay here, which will probably be pretty long. We traveled so much during the last year, and Jim and Linda spent a whole lot of money on me down in Florida, so now we need to just sit someplace and not travel for awhile.

For those of you that are not full-timers, that's how we save money. If I'm not moving, I'm not burning fuel, and that saves a lot. Also, if we stay in one place, Jim and Linda can take advantage of sales at stores in the area. Also, it seems like they don't eat out as often. At any rate, it works, and money is saved, and then we can "hit the road", again. :-)

Eyes, Finances and Denny

Rantoul, IL
64 deg. partly cloudy, little breeze
Forecast today = high temp. 88 deg. increasing clouds, with a 20% chance of t-storms, Winds SW @ 15 to 20 mph with 30 mph gusts.

Yesterday was a busy day for Jim and Linda. They took CLT, (Cute Little Truck), left here about 8:00 AM and headed up to Kankakee, IL, (about 65 miles North of here), where they both had eye doctor appointments. Linda has diabetes, and has had serious eye problems in the past. She has severe loss of sight in one eye and some retinal damage to the other one. She has had laser surgery on both eyes, but for the last 4 or 5 years, she has not had any further damage to either eye. Now, it is of utmost importance that she have them checked regularly.

I'm glad to report that the doctor said that both eyes were stable and no treatment was needed at this time.

Jim also has had some eye problems. In 2005 he had cataract surgery on both eyes, and then in 2006 he developed large "floaters" in both eyes. It's annoying, but the doctor said that it shouldn't be a problem unless all of a sudden it gets worse. Then, Jim would need to get to a eye doctor right away.

So, after the eye doctor checked Jim's eyes, he told him that unless he noticed changes, he didn't need to come back for 2 years.

Good news for both of my owners!

After the eye doctor, Jim and Linda headed even further North (about 12 or 15 miles), to Peotone, IL, (where they used to live before they went full-timing), for an appointment with their financial advisor. He has been handling their investment finances for years, and Jim and Linda have been very happy with the results. So, every year when we're in the area, they go and see him and go over all of their investments and discuss any changes that they may want to make.

Oh, a neat thing happened during the drive up to Peotone. Denny, one of the "Illinois Bunch" came up beside CLT on his Gold Wing motorcycle. He had been down in Kankakee also, and was on his way home when he recognized CLT. Anyway, they pulled into a parking lot, and they all talked for a little while. He said that he and Bev were both looking forward to coming down here later this month.

It was about 4:00 by the time CLT pulled back into the CG. All in all, it was a good day. They had a good meeting with their financial advisor and Jim and Linda both said that it was a great relief to know that everything was OK with their eyes.
