BOO!!!!! Starting To Get Ready and A New Park?

Apex, NC
49 deg. partly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 72 deg. sunny, W. wind @ 5 to 10 mph.

Boo!!!!!!

Jim went out yesterday morning and started checking me over. He did the fluid level thing again and  straightened up some things in my basement compartments, Then he worked some on getting the rear of CLT straightened out so that there would be room to bring the groceries home from the store.

Then, about noon, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to the little town of Moncure, which is about 12 or so miles South of here. "Why did they go there", you ask? Well, Jim had talked to an RVer who was parked across the street from me and he told Jim about an RV park over there. He had a business card from the park but it only gave the street name and the manager's phone number. Well, Mable, (the little lady that lives inside of Jim and Linda's GPS unit), found the street, and it was only a couple of miles long, so they headed over there to see if they could find the park and check it out.

Well, they found the park and it wasn't too bad. There were only a couple of vacant sites and the rest of them were filled with what appeared to be "seasonal" RVs. The park was clean though, and would work if we were here late in the season for some reason.

The reason for looking for another park? Well, I guess I haven't told you, but during the winter months, (starting the 1st of November), Jordan Lake SRA, (where we are now), closes the gates at 6:00 PM and no one can get in or out until morning!!! Yep, you read that right. 6:00 PM!!!

So, being that Mike doesn't get home from work until 5:00 and It's about a 20 or 25 minute drive from Mike's to this park, Jim and Lind would only have about 1/2 hour to see him. :-(  We usually get here a little earlier in the year, and don't run into this problem, but in the future, Jim and Linda may just look into that other park.

Anyway, from that park, they had Mable direct them to Mike's house to see how far it was and found out that it's only about 16 miles, so that's not too bad either. Then, they headed over to a Lowes Food Store where they bought groceries. By the time they came back here it was about 2:30 and they still had all of the groceries to put away.

Then when the groceries were put away, they were both pretty tired, so the took little naps before dinner.

After dinner they watched TV again, until bedtime.

May Day, Mable Gets Ornery, A Mall Tour and Meatballs

Virginia Beach, VA.
65 deg. clear, SW wind @ 15 mph.
Forecast today = high temp. 82 deg. mostly sunny, SW wind @ 10 to 15 mph.

Happy May Day!!!!!

Not a whole lot happened around here yesterday morning. Jim said that he didn't have much "get-up-and-go", so he just messed around outside some, watched a little TV and drank his coffee. After lunch, he and Linda took CLT and headed back to the Walgreen's store and picked up the last part of Linda's prescriptions that were on back-order.

Now, from Walgreen's, the plan was to go to the Forbe's Candy Company and buy Linda some more sugar free candy. Well, they had never gone from the part of the city where the Walgreen's store is to the part of the city where Forbe's is before, so Jim took Mable, (their GPS), along and programed her to direct them between the 2 places. I guess Jim has to accept some of the blame, because he programed Mable to take them there on the "shortest route", but I think Mable was just being ornery.

You see, from Walgreen's, she took them on some back streets, through a residential area, had them take many left then right then left then right turns, and finally took them right into a Mall parking lot, where she took them first along the road that runs right up by the stores and then through the parking lot and down through the rows of cars, only to take them back out onto the street that they were on originally, but going the other way!!!

Of course the traffic was heavy in the mall area, and most of the people were in a hurry to get someplace, so it turned out to be quite a nerve-wracking experience.

CLT said that at one point, he thought Jim was going to throw Mable out of the window, but instead, he pulled over to the side of the road, reprogrammed her for the "quickest way", and resumed their quest to find Forbe's.

After Jim re-programed her, Mable behaved, and took them right to the store, without any more side trips. :-)

After they got back here, Jim took a nap, and Linda started preparing her meatball and rice dish that she was making for dinner. Then, after getting everything cooked and ready, they carried everything into the house, about 6:30. The meal went over well, and everyone, (especially Sami) thought it was really good. (Sami really likes meatballs). ;-)

After dinner, Jim, Linda, Joe and Nancy sat outside in the back yard and talked  for awhile. Then, a little before 9:00, people were starting to get tired so Jim and Linda came back out here, and Joe and Nancy went inside.

Today, I think Jim is going to put some more water into my fresh water tank. It's down below 1/2 and will probably run out by Thursday if he doesn't. Other than that, I have no Idea what's happening.

Oh, I just remembered!!!! Nancy bought some steaks at the grocery store the other day, and has asked Jim if he would cook them on his grill. She and Joe think that the way he cooks them is really good, and almost every time we're here, have asked him to do it.

Yummm!!! I can smell them cooking already!!!!  ;-)

Neighbors, Mable and Piggly Wiggly

Hollywood, SC.
54 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 72 deg. sunny, NW winds @ 10 to 15 mph.

Not a real lot happened here at Lake Aire yesterday. Jim went up to the office and got me registered for 3 more nights, so we'll be staying here until Saturday.

He also spent some time talking to the neighbors, (I didn't get their names), and found out that they are planning on going full-timing in a couple of years. As most of you full-timers know, when you meet someone who is planning on going full-time and they find out that you are already doing it, they have lots of questions. Well, Jim loves to answer their questions and help them out in any way he can, so the discussion lasted quite awhile. They're going to be here until sometime this weekend too, so I imagine there will be more conversations under the awning. :-)

There's also a man named Bill, who has a 5th wheel and is in the site across the road and in front of me, that Jim talked to for awhile. He and his wife are full-timers and they work-camp a lot. In fact, they will be leaving here soon to take a work-camping position in Texas for the winter.

You meet the nicest people in campgrounds. :-)

After lunch, Jim and Linda took CLT, (Cute Little Truck), and headed to a Piggly Wiggly grocery store that Mable had found. She said that it was the closest store to this park, so being that Jim and Linda had been to Piggly Wiggly stores before and liked them, they decided to follow her instructions.

Oh, I'm sorry, some of you may not know who Mable is. Mable is the little lady that lives inside of Jim and Linda's GPS unit and helps us navigate to our destinations. She's usually very accurate, but has been know to lead us astray a few time in the past.

Anyway, Mable's instructions were good and Jim and Linda found the store without any problems. They didn't need a whole lot of groceries, but needed some essentials like bread and milk, so decided to pick up some other items while they were there.

For dinner, Jim cooked a steak out on the grill and Linda prepared some yellow squash and onion, and some garlic bread inside.

It sure all smelled good, and both Jim and Linda said that it tasted really good too! ;-)

Did you know that today is "National Men Make a Dinner Day"?

Good luck, guys. ;-)

Photos, Mable, Belts and Memorial Day

Heiskell, TN
63 deg. cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 81 deg. becoming mostly sunny, N. winds @ 5 to 10 mph.

Jim took a couple of photos of the park yesterday, so I thought I'd post a couple of them. With this 1st one, you can see that this used to be a KOA campground by the style of the office.
This second shot is of my site. As you can see, the sites are not huge, but not cramped either. Some of the sites are shady, (like mine), and some are not, which makes it nice if you have satellite TV.
Well, it happened! I knew it would! What happened, you ask? Well, if you have been following this blog for awhile, you know that Jim and Linda have this GPS thing that has a little woman in it, that I have named Mable. Anyway, right from the time that they got Mable, I wasn't so sure about following her instructions to get to a destination. Well, yesterday, she really goofed up.

Jim and Linda needed to go to the Post Office to pick up their mail, and then go to a Drug Store to pick up a few things. Well, Jim and Linda knew where the post office was, but weren't sure where a Drug Store was. Jim did a search for Drug Stores in the area using Mable's search feature, and she gave them the directions to get to a CVS Pharmacy about 6 miles away. Well, they followed her instructions, and when they got to the "destination", they were in a church parking lot!! CLT (Cute Little Truck), said that they went on down the road for about a mile, didn't find anything, turned around and went back the other way about 3 miles, and finally found a CVS Pharmacy there.

Now, leading CLT astray, is one thing, but can you imagine if that had been me? I can't always find a place to turn around and go the other way!! What happens if Mable goofs up directing me to a destination? I think for the most part, I'll just stick with my good old Truckers Atlas!

Also, yesterday, Jim replaced the hydraulic pump belt on my engine. I've had problems with this belt in the past, and now the belt was starting to crack and come apart again. Jim had a new one, so he installed it, but he said that he's going to have to try to find someone to ask about it, because the belt should last over 10,000 miles.

I hope all of you have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. Please remember the true meaning of this holiday. A lot of soldiers have died to keep us free.

Hey! Why not get out that American Flag that you've got stored somewhere, and fly it this weekend?

Spring, Fall, and Mable

Apex, NC
46 deg. mostly cloudy, no wind
Forecast today = high temp. 77 deg. mostly sunny, S. winds @ 10 to 15 mph.

Happy May Day!! AAhhh! May flowers!

A nice thing about Full-timing and moving North and South is the fact that we can enjoy very long spring and fall seasons. The flowers were just starting to bloom when we left Florida, and by the time we left Georgia, they were blooming there. Now, the flowers are just starting to bloom here in North Carolina. The same goes for the fall season. Some years, we can enjoy the beautiful fall foliage for a couple of months as we travel back South.

Jim and Linda did go to eat at the Perkins Restaurant yesterday evening. After eating they did a little driving around to explore the area. CLT, (Cute Little Truck), told me that Mable, (the little lady in the GPS unit), got really upset with Jim because he kept going "off course", and she had to keep recalculating the route! CLT said that at times, she was so confused that she was telling Jim to make left and right turns at almost the same time, and telling him to turn when there wasn't even a corner! Poor Mable, she finally got straightened out when Jim got her back on course. :-)

Not much going on around here. Today promises to be a beautiful day, so I imagine that Jim will be outside quite a bit. Maybe he'll take a ride on his bicycle today. He's been wanting to get some photos of the lake, and riding over there would be good exercise and he could get his photos at the same time.

Weather, Taxes and Change of Plans

Norcross, GA
37 deg. clear, light East winds.
Forecast today = High temp. 58 deg. mostly sunny, N. Winds @ 5 to 15 MPH.

Have you got those taxes done and in the mail?

Yesterday was a cold, nasty day. It never did get above 50 deg., it was breezy, and then it started to rain. I know I shouldn't complain, but for an RV that has only seen a couple of days like that this whole last winter, It felt really cold.

Jim and Linda didn't go to the hospital to see Louise and Roland yesterday. Why not, you ask? Well, right after lunch, Louise was scheduled to be moved to a rehab/therapy center. That move didn't start until sometime after 2 PM. By the time they moved her, it was getting pretty late, and Louise was very tired. Everyone seemed to agree that it was probably best to just wait until today.

So, Jim and Linda decided to go get a few groceries. Well, Mable, (the little woman in the GPS unit), found a Publix grocery for Jim and Linda, (yes, she has a search feature where Jim can search for stores, restaurants, gas stations, and a whole bunch of other stuff, in the area), and directed them to it, by the best route. They didn't need a whole lot of groceries, so they were only gone for a short time. When they got back they said that Mable "did good".

Today, Roland is going to come here to the Park. You see, Louise is going to be doing rehab/therapy most of the day, so Roland really won't be able to spend much time with her. So, why not come and see me?? Of course he'll probably want to visit with Jim and Linda too.

I don't know if Jim and Linda will go to the rehab center today or not. I would imagine that these first few days of doing rehab/therapy will be pretty hard for Louise. We'll have to see how she feels.

Did you know that Ulysses S. Grant's middle name was Simpson?

We're thinking about you, Louise.

Finally seeing Roland and Louise

Norcross, GA
38 deg. mostly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = High temp. 52 deg. mostly cloudy, 40% chance of rain, NW winds @ 5 to 15 MPH.

38 deg.!!! What's going on here? It's not supposed to be this cold in Georgia, in April!!!

We left the Twin Oaks RV PK a little after 10:00 and continued N. on I-75. We took the I-475 cut-off to by-pass Macon and then, when we got up close to Atlanta, we took I-675 and I-285 to get up to I-85 where we turned NE and followed it a few miles up here to Norcross and the Jones RV Park. It was about 12:30 when we pulled up to the office, and we had traveled 131 miles.

There road was good with fairly heavy traffic, and there were only a few short sections of construction zone, but the big thing was the wind. 25 to 35 MPH winds with higher gusts, hitting me right from the side. Now, I'm a big heavy coach, but those winds did move me around quite a bit.

The office here at Jones RV Park is closed on Sundays, so Jim picked up a registration form and a map of the CG and we headed out to find the "perfect" site. Well, I don't consider any of the sites here "perfect", but Jim did find me a nice wide site, with a tree to my right, so that no other RV can park too close to me. It'll be fine for a week., although I would like a little grass instead of this gravel.

After Jim and Linda got me settled in, Jim called Roland and he gave Jim directions to Emory Hospital. After a little while, they took CLT and Mable, and headed to Atlanta. Well, everything went fine, and CLT told me that Mable was very helpful directing him to the hospital. In fact it only took about 1/2 hour to get there.

Once at the Hospital, Jim and Linda had to walk a long ways to get to the elevators that took them up to the 7th floor. Linda said that she was glad that it wasn't any farther. Anyway, they got to the 7th floor, and while they were trying to find out which wing to go to, Roland came walking up. After hugs and handshakes, Roland took them in to see Louise.

From what I can gather, Louise is doing pretty well. She has quite a bit of pain, but seems to be in good spirits, and was really happy to see Jim and Linda.

When Jim and Linda get together with Roland and Louise, it has become kind of a "tradition" to have pizza for dinner. Well, Louise felt like she could eat some, so Jim and Roland went to a local pizza place and picked one up and brought it back to the room. Louise ate quit a bit, and Roland said that it was the most she had eaten since she had been in the hospital.

Some things just taste better when you have good friends with you. :-)

After a while, Louise started getting tired, and she still was going to have some therapy, so Jim and Linda came back here and spent the rest of the evening with me and watched TV.

Jim and Linda said that it was sure good to see Roland and Louise again. It's just too bad that it has to be under these circumstances.

Did you know that no word in the English language rhymes with month?

Get well, Louise.

Spring and Mable

Bushnell, FL.
48 deg. clear, calm winds.
Forecast today = High temp. 78 deg. mostly sunny, E winds @ 10 to 15 MPH.

Well, I blew it yesterday! Yesterday was the first day of spring, and I didn't even remember it until sometime in the afternoon! Anyway, Happy first day of Spring!!! a day late.

I like spring. All of the trees start getting their new leaves, the grass turns green again, the flowers start blooming, and I get to do some traveling.

We normally don't do a whole lot of traveling during the winter months. I usually end up sitting for long periods of time in RV Parks, down here in Florida. But when spring comes, we start heading North. Ahhh! What a great time to travel. The days are cool, the scenic areas are not crowded with tourist, and the Camp grounds have plenty of spaces available.

As you can probably tell, Spring is one of my favorite times of the year.

Last night Jim and Linda went out to eat at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant, which is about 9 miles South of here. As always, the food was very good. To get there, you either get onto I-75, or you head over to US 301, and go around the other way, which is a little longer. Well, Jim decided that he didn't want battle the heavy traffic on 75, so they went the longer way. Mable, (the little woman in the GPS), didn't like that at all. She kept insisting that they make a U-turn at the next possible place. Then, when they got over by the restaurant, she wanted them to turn down a little street that was a block away from where they were actually supposed to turn.

On the way back, she directed them to turn down this little county road. Well, Jim and Linda weren't in a hurry, so Jim decided to follow her directions, just to see where she would take them. Well, this little road took them through the country, had them making all kinds of turns, and finally brought them out on the road that runs in front of the Campground, about 1/2 a mile past the Campground. Definitely not the shortest or fastest route, but after thinking about it, it was scenic.

I'm going to have to watch her when she's directing me around the country.

Did you know that the plastic things on the ends of shoelaces are called aglets?

Get well, Roland and Louise.
