Mahomet, IL.
61 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = Mostly sunny. Slight chance of showers in the morning... then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 80s. West winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts around 20 mph by afternoon. Chance of precipitation 20 percent.
It rained most of the morning yesterday and I thought for sure that Jim would have to unhook my utilities in the rain, but about 12:00 it stopped and we were able to Leave Rantoul without Jim getting wet. In fact within about a mile of the CG it wasn't even sprinkling any more.
The wind was blowing quite hard though so it took a little effort to stop from weaving all over my lane.
It was just 12:30 when we pulled into the parking lot at R & S so we traveled 24 miles in a half an hour.
As soon as Jim unhooked CLT from the back of me, Steve, (the shop foreman), pulled me around to the back of the building and into a service bay right next to the Newmar.
Then the fun began. Jim, Linda and a gal that works here at R & S, (I can't remember her name right now), started moving stuff from me into the Newmar.
What a job!!! None of the cabinets are the same size, some places where I have drawers there are doors and believe it or not, I have more basement storage than the 45' Newmar has!!! ;-) The Newmar does have some storage space under it's bed though, so some of the items that were in my basement can go there.
Everyone worked really hard all afternoon and then about 4:00 Steve and a mechanic switched Jim and Linda's sleep number mattress with the one in the Newmar, so they could spend the night in their new home.
So, I'm parked inside next to the Newmar. Jim and Linda spent the night in the new MH, (inside of the shop), and today the transfer of stuff will continue. I don't know how much longer it will take. Jim and Linda were really tired last night so they may have to take it a little easier today.
For dinner, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to the Hen House Restaurant here in Mahomet. They said the food was good but nothing special.
Oh, by the way, I did find out what the Newmar's name is. Come to find out, it's also a Celtic name like mine, so maybe we have some ancient connections. ;-)
"What is the name?" you ask. It's Emrys, which is pronounced Em ris in English.
I think I like that name. It seems to fit him well.
Did you know that on this day in 1884, the first roller coaster in America opened at Coney Island, in Brooklyn?

Storms and Going To R & S Today.
Rantoul, IL.
64 Deg. Thunder, lightning, strong winds, heavy rain.
Forecast today = Showers and thunderstorms in the morning...then showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Heavy rain possible into mid morning. Highs in the upper 70s. South winds around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 80 percent.
Wow!!! Lots of lightning and thunder and some of it very close too!!!
It's been storming for the last couple hours and by the radar, it looks like it's going to storm for awhile longer!!
Found out yesterday afternoon that Jim and Linda will be taking me over to R & S Sales and Service about noon today. Steve, the shop foreman, said that he still had a few minor things to do on the Newmar but didn't see any reason why Jim and Linda couldn't start transferring some of their belongings from me to it.
So, , , , , we'll be leaving here around 11:30 to head over there. I imagine that it will take a couple of days to get everything transferred over. Then, there's the walk-through, (where all of the features and controls of all the workings of the MH will be explained), that Steve says will take about 3 hours, so I really can't see Jim and Linda getting back here to the CG until Friday at the earliest.
Once we arrive at the dealership, the plan is to pull me along side of the Newmar with our entry doors facing each other so Jim and Linda's stuff can be transferred easily. As I see it, the biggest drawback is that Jim and Linda couldn't pack up a real lot of stuff in boxes because there's no place to set the boxes in me and still be able to live inside of me.
So, a lot of stuff will have to be packed into boxes when we get there to be carried over to the Newmar. This will take some time.
I know some of you are wondering what's going to happen to this blog. Well, I still don't know for sure but I'm going to talk to the Newmar when I get there and see if I can convince it to either take over this blog or start a new one. I've never met this MH, so I have no idea what the response will be, but I'll do my best to try to get it to do one or the other. I'll also try to find out it's name and other information and introduce it to you.
So, if you'll just be patient, I'll get back to you just as soon as I can. The next few days will be really busy but I'll give you all the info as soon as possible.

More Of The Same and Shirley And Paul
Rantoul, IL.
67 deg. cloudy, no wind, thunder in the distance.
Forecast today = Mostly cloudy. A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning. Not as warm. Highs in the upper 70s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
Not a whole lot to write about this morning. Jim and Linda have been continuing to go through cabinets, drawers and closets to sort and get rid of unnecessary items before getting the new MH.
So when am I going to meet the Newmar? Well, now the salesman is saying that it will be ready Tuesday. Jim and Linda were originally told that it would be ready in 2 weeks, which would have been yesterday. :-(
Shirley and Paul stopped by for awhile yesterday. It's too bad that Jim and Linda are in the middle of this moving thing as they would have liked to spend more time with them. They were only going to stay here for one night but weather conditions and storm damage in the area that they are going to kept them from traveling yesterday. This morning they should be leaving pretty early so they can get to their next destination near Rockford, IL, before it gets too late.
We wish them safe travels and Jim and Linda are looking forward to meeting up with them again. :-)
Don't really know what's happening today. Jim's going to try to get hold of Nathan to see if he's heard anything about the microwave/convection oven parts. And, it looks like Jim and Linda will have to pick up a few groceries because they're out of a few necessities.

The "Hot" Topic and It's Falling Together
Rantoul, IL.
77 deg. clear, SW wind @ 7 mph.
Forecast today = Sunny and hot. Near record highs in the mid 90s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph. Heat index readings around 100.
The weather continues to be the "hot" topic around here. ;-) The official temperature here in Rantoul was 97 degrees yesterday and my little thermometer, which is in the shade on the North side of me, read 98.4 degrees at one time. And, of course, the humidity is sky high too, making it really muggy. :-(
Linda talked to the salesman at the RV dealership yesterday and found out that the Newmar should be ready in a few more days. She told the salesman about the oven and he said it wouldn't be a problem if wasn't fixed by the time the trade was made. Also, Linda called the bank and found out that the necessary funds have been wired to their account, so that's all taken care of.
It really looks like this is falling together.
Jim talked to Louise yesterday and I think that when they return from the dealership with the Newmar, they're going to move to a site on the other side of the street. "Why would they want to do that", you ask? Well, in this site, the RV is facing West with no afternoon shade. That doesn't matter too much with a trailer, but with a MH, the afternoon sun blasts right on the windshield and really heats things up inside. If parked on the other side of the street, the MH would be facing East and the only sun on the windshield would be in the morning before it gets really hot outside.
Jim and Linda always used to park me on the other side of the street, but moved to this side because of all the big trees over here. The problem is that those trees just don't give any shade for my windshield during the later part of the afternoon.
Oh, we almost had a small crisis here yesterday. You see, Jim was looking at the calendar and trying to figure out just when they would have to leave Rantoul to get to Sioux Falls, SD to get their drivers licence renewed. They have to get that accomplished before going to the family reunion in Wisconsin. Well, the other day when Jim and Linda were packing stuff up, he packed up his pencil and big eraser!!!!
Oh No!!!! Now what???? Well, he dug around in the boxes in one of my cabinets and found a pencil with a little eraser. He says that will do for now until he can find the other one. :-)
So, when do they need to leave Rantoul? Well, they'd like to get out of here on or about the 22nd of this month but could stay until the 24th if necessary. You see, they want to get there and get their business done before the 4th of July weekend if possible and then just park somewhere for the holiday. Of course reservation will have to be made at that time, so they'll have to decide pretty soon where they want to stay.

AARRRRRRGGG!!!!!!!!
Rantoul, IL.
73 deg. clear, SW wind @ 8 mph.
Forecast today = Sunny and hot. Highs in the mid 90s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 25 mph in the afternoon. Heat index readings around 100.
AARRRRRRGGG!!!!!!
Nathan, the appliance repair guy, came yesterday about noon to repair my oven. After taking it out and placing it on the picnic table outside, he took it all apart to install the new parts that had been sent from the Sharp factory. Once he got the thing apart, he found yet another switch that was broken!!!!! So, , , , , he got back on the phone, called the gal at Sharp and found out that this was a common problem that they've been having with this model. In fact they said that's probably what caused the problem in the beginning!!!!!
Now, I have ask, If they're having a problem with that switch and it usually causes the problem with the other part that was already ordered, why didn't they just sent that switch right away too???????
Noooooooooo!!!!! They couldn't do that!!!!!! So now we have to wait for another 3 or 4 days for that part to come!!!!!!
Now the questions are - - Will the parts come in and the oven be repaired before the Newmar is ready? If not, what happens with the RV dealer when he finds out that I don't have an oven???? Will it be OK with the dealer to take me in on trade and then wait for Nathan to bring the oven to the dealership and install it????? Who will pay Nathan to take the oven all the way to the dealer to install it?????
I don't know the answer to any of those questions!!!! AARRRRRRGGG!!!!!!!!!
On top of all of this, it's been in the mid 90's here for the last few days and the forecast is for the mid to upper 90's for the next couple days!!! And, do you know what happens after 4 or 5 days of very hot and humid weather in the Midwest, at this time of year?
Yep, storms!!!!! Usually severe!!!! They're already forecasting possible storms for late Thursday!!!!
Just what I need!! :-(
Sorry about this negative post, but I just had to vent this morning. I'm sure this will all work out one way or another, but right now things are not looking good. :-(
Did you know only two states have record highs no greater than 100 degrees? These are Alaska and Hawaii.

A Busy, Busy Day and A Surprise Visit
Rantoul, IL.
70 Deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = Partly sunny with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s. Light north winds.
I didn't think much was going to get done yesterday. Jim didn't do much at all in the morning, in fact he didn't even go outside until about 9:30, and by that time, it was already starting to get pretty hot and muggy.
Evidently he decided to dump my tanks because that's what he did first and then did a little sorting in one of my basement compartments. Abut the time he was done with that, Louise, (the campground hostess), came by and they talked for a few minutes.
While they were talking, Jim mentioned that he was kind of dreading moving everything from me into the Newmar MH and said he figured it would take 2 or 3 days at least for he and Linda to do it. Well, Louise suggested that Jim go get some boxes and put a bunch of the stuff that's inside of me, into the boxes and then put the boxes in the storage area over at the bath house. That way, there won't be so much stuff to move over at the dealer's lot, and then when they get back here with the Newmar, they can take their time packing the rest of the stuff into the compartments and cabinets.
Wow!!! What a great idea!! The stuff that will be stored here will be safe, (locked up in the storage area), and it won't take so long over at the dealer's lot!!!
So , , , , , Jim took CLT and headed into town to find some boxes. His first stop was a liquor store. The reasoning was that those boxes are built more sturdy than regular cardboard boxes because they have to be stronger for the bottles. He got 5 boxes there and then went to the Auto Zone store where he picked up 5 or 6 more boxes that were used for oil and other merchandise.
When he got back, he and Linda went to work pulling stuff out of cabinets and packing it in the boxes. By the time most of the boxes were full, about 1/2 of my cabinets were empty. Now, don't get me wrong, there's still a lot of stuff to move, but it should be much easier that if would have been.
So, I have boxes sitting everywhere. Today, Jim will get hold of Louise and get her to unlock the storage area so he can put the boxes and a bunch of the totes from my basement in there.
Soon after lunch, the phone rang and it was Dave and Dee Dee. (Part of the Illinois Bunch), They were up in Kankakee and would be passing Rantoul on I-57 on their way to their home home in Neoga, IL. and wanted to know if it would be OK if they stopped by for a little while to visit. Well, of course Jim said that it would be great if they'd stop by, so in about an hour, they pulled up in front of my site and came in to visit for about an hour. :-)
I'm sure most of my regular readers will remember Dave and Dee Dee. They're the ones that put on the great fish fry when we're all down in Thonotosassa, FL during the winter.
Well anyway, Jim and Linda had moved a few boxes around so that there was seating for everyone, so they all sat and talked for about an hour. Part of the discussion was about what everyone has been doing since they had last seen each other, part about the Newmar and part about possible plans for Dave, Dee Dee and the rest of the Illinois bunch, (Denny and Bev and Gordy and Dorthy), to come here to the park sometime in August or early September.
After they left, Jim and Linda continued packing boxes and then about 4:00, they decided that they had done enough for the day and decided to relax. After a light dinner, Jim went out and rolled up all my awnings and put all the outside stuff away as the forecast was for possible severe t-storms.
We didn't have any severe weather right here, but did have some wind, lightning and rain. There were some reports of very strong winds not too far from here though.
Today Jim wants to get those boxes and totes moved to the storage area. Then, he's hoping that he can relax for awhile and watch the NASCAR race on TV as it'll be the last one that he'll see for awhile since they're switching over to broadcasting the races on cable channels after this one.
Like I said in the Title of this post, it was a busy, busy day, but a lot got accomplished and both Jim and Linda feel good about the progress.
A Point to Ponder : What does the T in T-Shirt really mean?

More Of The Same and Making Hard Decisions Again
Rantoul, IL.
73 deg. clear, S. wind @ 6 mph.
Forecast today = Increasing clouds. A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some storms may be severe with damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Highs in the lower 90s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
Yesterday was more of the same. Jim was out early and sorting through totes and boxes in my basement. Then when it got hot outside, (we had temperatures in the 90's yesterday with high humidity), he came inside and helped Linda, who was going through cabinets inside of me and doing the same sorting, condensing and throwing away, that he had been doing.
A very busy day, but he did manage to get in a nice nap in the afternoon though. ;-)
I don't know if Jim will be doing much outside today, it's already 73 degrees and very humid. He doesn't have a real lot more to do in my basement, but it needs to be done so he'll probably try to do a little more.
One other thing that both Jim and Linda will have to deal with is their clothes. There's not as much clothes hanging space in the Newmar, but there are more cabinets and drawers. So, some of the clothes that are now hanging up in my 2 large closets will now have to be folded and put into the cabinets and drawers.
There's also the matter of clothes that haven't been worn for awhile. What to do? Do they give it away to Good-Will or something or will they need it/want it in the near future?
Jim says that moving into a different RV is very close to selling a house and moving into an RV to go full-timing. You don't have to get rid of as much "stuff", but you still need to re-evaluate everything and go through the same process of making those hard decisions again. You don't want to get rid of something that you'll be needing, but how do you know what that is? Jim and Linda have been at this full-tining thing long enough to know that at times, you do get caught in weather conditions that you're not expecting, (that heavy coat that Jim still has in the closet sure came handy in Deming NM a few years ago, when it got down to 18 degrees), or will have some kind of problem that you need that special tool for.
Or, the microwave/convection oven will break and you'll need that pan that you haven't used for years to cook a meal. (Still haven't heard anything from the repair guy).
So, , , , , , the process continues. More decisions will be made and hopefully they'll be the right ones. Any of you who have gone, or are getting ready to, go full-timing know what it's like.
Linda called Laura yesterday and told here about the new MH. Things have been so busy around here that niether Jim or Linda have talked to any of the kids lately. I'm thinking that maybe they better get on the phone this weekend and let the other kids know what's going on too!!!
A Point to Ponder : If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy?
73 deg. clear, S. wind @ 6 mph.

Prairie Pines Campground
Rantoul, IL.
70 Deg. clear, S. wind @ 7 mph.
Forecast today = Mostly sunny. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs around 90. Breezy. Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 30 mph. Chance of precipitation 50 percent.
During our travels Jim and Linda have mentioned to quite a few people that we usually come up here to Illinois during the summer and stay at the Prairie Pines Campground in Rantoul. Some of the folks have asked what it's like and since Jim took some photos of the park yesterday, I thought I'd post a few here.
Back in the 90's, the government closed up the Chanute Air Fore Base here in Rantoul. The city took over most of the property and tried to utilize it as best they could. The Prairie Pines Campground is part of the old base and is located in the area where there were Mobile Homes parked for housing for the military.
Once the base was closed and the Mobile Homes moved out, the city decided that since all the utilities were already here, they'd turn it into a campground. When you head East off of Rt.45 onto Chandler Road, (on the South edge of town), you'll come to the CG and you'll see this sign on your left.
When you turn in at the above sign, this is the view you'll have.
As you head down the CG Road, you'll see Paul and Louise's Mobile Suites 5th wheel on your left.
Just past their trailer you'll see the little office that was built with donations and volunteers. (Jim even helped some). It's not real large, but it works. Before it was built, people who were wanting to rent a camp site were knocking on Paul and Louise's door and tracking dirt into their 5th wheel, so Louise is thrilled to have it. :-)
Across the road from Paul and Louise's 5th wheel and a little closer to the main road is where I've been parked the last few times that we've been here. It's site # 12 and as you can see, I get some nice shade in the morning and early afternoon.
All the sites are pull-through full hook-up with 20, 30 and 50 amp service. There are walkways and cement patios at many of the sites and Paul and Louise will bring you a picnic table, (if you want one and there's not one at your site already when you get there).
Some sites are shaded but if you use a satellite, there are open sites too. It's a quiet campground and is usually only busy on weekends or when there are rally groups here. Of course for special events, (like the farm show), or any major holiday during the summer, it gets really busy, but other than those times, you usually don't need reservations.
Paul and Louise are great folks and will do their best to accommodate your campsite needs. So. . . . . if you're in the area, swing by and enjoy a nice quiet stay. Who knows, Jim and Linda may be here during your visit.
If they are, stop by and say "Hi".
It was very windy here yesterday and we had temperatures in the low 90's. Jim was outside some in the morning, but not in the afternoon, when it got so windy. Today, Linda needs to call the repair place to get someone to come out and look at her oven, Jim wants to start going through some of the basement stuff to see what he can eliminate so it doesn't have to be moved, and they're running out of some grocery stuff so they'll need to go to the grocery store either today or tomorrow.
They don't want to buy more than necessary though, because they'll just have to move it to the new MH.
A Point to Ponder : On a hamburger bun, why is the top part of the bun always bigger than the bottom part?

Indiana to Illinois and That Was Exciting!!!
Rantoul, IL.
55 Deg.overcast, N. wind @ 13 mph.
Forecast today = Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms in the morning...then showers likely and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Cooler. Highs in the lower 60s. Breezy north winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to around 25 mph. Chance of precipitation 80 percent.
Wow!!!! That was exciting!!!!!! Yesterday evening in this area there were 65 mph winds, golf ball sized hail reported near by, t-storm warnings and tornado warnings with a possible touch-down less than 15 miles from here!!!!!! Oh, and I forgot, buckets of rain!!!!
And, that's the second round of excitement that I had yesterday. !!!! But, I'll get to that in a minute.
Even though it wasn't raining or storming in Oaktown yesterday morning, the radar was showing heavy weather to the west in Illinois, and to the North of us. So. . . . Jim decided it was a good idea to delay leaving the New Vision RV Park for about a half hour.
It was 10:25 when we pulled out of the park and continued North on US 41. Once up to Terre Haute we turned West on I-70 and crossed into Illinois. A few miles into IL. we turned North on IL Rt 1 and took it all the way up to I-74 near Danville. After turning West on 74 we ran into a very strong t-storm in the Oakwood area.
Now, this is when I had my first round of excitement.
I can't remember traveling in such bad weather. First it got real windy, and then it started raining. The rain became so heavy that I was down below 40 mph and I still couldn't see where we were going!!! :-0 There was no place to pull over and in fact one section of I-74 was under construction and was down to 1 lane!!!
Well, we made it, and just before we got to the Urbana area, the rain let up quite a bit and I could actually see to exit the Interstate and turn North on US 45. The rain quit as we traveled on 45 and soon we were at the Prairie Pines Campground in Rantoul. :-)
It was 1:30 when we pulled up in front of the office so it took us 3 hours and 5 minutes to travel 147 miles. Not too bad considering the weather and the 2 lane roads that we took to get here.
Louise, (the campground host) was waiting for us when we arrived, (Jim had called her a week or so ago to let her know when we would be here), and so was my usual site that I've been in for the last few times that we've been here.
After talking to Louise for a few minutes, Jim came back out and drove me around to the street behind me so that we could pull right into my site. The sites here are pull-thru sites, but to pull through, you have to drive across a large grassy area. Well, with all the rain that they've had in this area, I was a little concerned about how soft the ground was. Jim checked it out though, and was convinced that I could make it. So, , , , , , after Jim telling me that we couldn't stop for any reason once we were on the grass, (because I might get stuck), we headed across the wet grass and without even slowing down, made it into my site, leaving some tracks where I had driven. "Whew"!!!!!!
So, now I'm settled into my site, (#12), and am getting comfortable for our almost 1 month stay here. I really like this park and am glad to be back again. When the weather clears up a little, I'll try to get Jim to take a few photos.
I hope all of you have weathered all the storms that have been going on across the country. It's been a crazy year for weather and I'm sure hoping that things settle down soon.

Kentucky To Indiana Between Storms
Oaktown, IN.
68 Deg. mostly cloudy, SE wind @ 9 mph.
Forecast today = Thunderstorms likely. Some thunderstorms may be severe in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 80s. South winds 10 to 15 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Chance of thunderstorms 70 percent
Jim woke Linda up an hour earlier than was planned yesterday morning because it looked on the radar that by leaving earlier, we could get out of the park and down the road between rain showers that were pretty much covering the Frankfort, KY area.
Just as Jim was unhooking me from the utilities it started sprinkling, but the heavier rain held off until we were heading West on I-64, and even then, the rain wasn't too heavy and we were able to maintain our desired speed of about 60 mph.
It rained off and on as we passed through the Louisville area and finally quit as we were approaching US 41 in the Western part of Indiana. From then on, the trip up US 41 to Oaktown was dry and uneventful.
When we pulled into the New Vision RV Park at 12:50, ( after traveling 215 miles in almost exactly 4 hours), there was no one in the office, so Jim called the number listed on a sign, (using the supplied phone), and talked to the owner. He said that there was only one site available, (#4), and he thought that I could get backed into it without too much trouble.
Well, Jim walked over to site #4 and determined that he could get me in there without any problem, so he unhooked CLT (Cute Little Truck), and backed me right in. Then after dinner when the office was open, Jim walked over there and paid the Passport America Rate of $13.44 for the site. ;-)
Now, the reason that this park is so full is that they are building a new power plant just a short way from here and most of the sites are rented out to some of the workers who are building it. So . . . .. if you decided that you'd like to stop by here and spend the night, be sure to give them a call first to make sure there's a site available.
I know Jim and Linda will next time. ;-)
Tonight, they're forecasting more rain and possible storms, (the ground around here is already so soft that I'm sure I'd get stuck if I got off of the gravel), and then tomorrow, the forecast is for more of the same. :-( But, again it is sounding like there may be a window of good weather during the middle part of the day, so once again, Jim will be watching the radar and try to get me up to Rantoul, IL between storms.

Milton, WV to Frankfort, KY and The Elkhorn CG
Frankfort, KY,
65 deg. overcast, SE wind @ 5 mph.
Forecast today = Showers and thunderstorms likely until midday...then chance of showers and thunderstorms later in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 80s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.
By about 10:00 the rain had pretty much quit and so Jim and Linda started getting me ready to travel. While Jim was getting ready to hook CLT to the back of me, John and Bridget came over to say good-bye and wish us safe travels.
They really are some nice folks and Jim and Linda are hoping that they'll see them again sometime. :-)
Anyway, by 10:55 we were pulling out of Jim's Campground and heading back to I-64. Taking 64 west brought us into Kentucky. Not far into the state, Jim pulled me into a truck stop and bought me a nice big drink of that good old #2 diesel fuel. :-)
I was getting really thirsty because the last drink I had was way back when we were leaving Jordan Lake in Apex, NC. Jim said that by waiting until we got to Kentucky, (instead of getting fuel in WV), we saved about 10 to 15 cents a gallon. Now, that's a pretty good chunk of change when you're buying about 85 gallons of fuel.
We had a little rain before we got into Kentucky, but after that, the skies cleared and except for some wind it was good traveling all the way to the Elkhorn Campground in Frankfort.
It was 2:20 when we pulled in, so it took us 3 hours and 25 minutes to travel 168 miles and stop to get me my drink.
We have been to this CG a few times in the past. It's not the easiest CG to get to and not the cheapest either. But, because, many years ago, we stopped here because I was having some problems, and the very nice folks in the office helped Jim find a place to get parts for me, we stop back here every time we're passing through the area. :-)
You see, Jim believes in giving our business to the especially nice folks that we meet who go out of their way to help us or do a few extra things to make our travels and stops nicer.
So, if you're passing through the Frankfort KY area and are looking for a nice CG with very friendly folks running it, stop by. They're good folks. :-)
Last night, we had another round of t-storms come through this area. It got pretty windy for awhile and there was a lot of thunder, lightning, rain and some small hail! Right now, the radar looks pretty good, but there are some more storms way down to the SW of here that are headed this way. :-(
Oh, did I mention that Jim has made change # 10 to our trip plan? Yep, he got out that big eraser of his again yesterday and made some more changes. ;-)
Now, because Jim and Linda have decided that the MH that they were going to look at up near Indianapolis is not one that they wanted, and Jim really didn't want to deal with the traffic and construction up there, they've decided that instead of turning North when we get to Louisville, we'll continue West and then head up through the western part of Indiana and the Eastern part of Illinois.
Did you know that bluegrass is not really blue--its green--but in the spring bluegrass produces bluish purple buds that when seen in large fields give a blue cast to the grass? Today Kentucky is known as the Bluegrass State.

Wildlife, Jim At Jim's and A Surprise Visit
Milton, WV
65 Deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = Mostly cloudy with showers with thunderstorms likely this morning...then partly sunny with scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Highs in the mid 80s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.
Wildlife!!!! Wildlife!!!!
Wow!!!! Just as it was getting light yesterday morning, some deer came wandering through the park and passed about 15' in front of me!!!! Later, Jim talked to Russ, (the CG Host) and he told Jim that some of them are very tame and will come right up to you.
Being that Jim had planned a short travel day, we didn't leave the Summer Wind RV Park until about 10:20. In a few minutes we were back on I-64, heading west towards Beckley, WV. Near Beckley, we turned North on I-64 / I-77 / WV Toll Road. Now, any of you that have been on this road, know that it's notorious for being a very rough road that will test your RVs springs and shocks.
Well, . . .. . this time was no different. Parts of the road have been repaved, but there are a couple of sections that are so rough that all the items in your refrigerator change from one shelf to the next. ;-)
Well, not really, but it's rough. :-)
Up by Charleston, I-64 separated from I-77 and headed West again. At exit #28 we turned off of the Interstate and after following US 60 for a short way, pulled into Jim's Campground! Yep, Jim just had to stop here after he found it on the Internet. He said "It must be good if it's named Jim's CG!! ;-)
Well, it's OK. The sites are fairly large and level, the back-in sites have 50 amp service and full hook-ups and there are some pull though sites in a different area that have 30 amp service and water. Really, the only bad things about this park are the roads. They are very rough, patched on top of patches and nothing but rough gravel and stone in other places. If you go slow though, it's not too bad and the park is good for an over night stop.
It was 12:45 when we pulled into the park, so it took us 2 hours and 25 minutes to travel 125 miles
Not long after Jim and Linda had me set up, there was a knock on the door and when Jim answered it, found out that John and Bridget Hatch had stopped by to say Hi! :-)
What a small world!!! John and Bridget are fellow RV Dreamers and were up near Richmond while we were there visiting with Mike, Terri, Jim and Dee, but we didn't get to see them at that time. Come to find out, they are here visiting relatives and are staying here in this park. John saw me drive by their site and then after waiting awhile so that Jim and Linda could get me set up, he, Bridget and some of their family stopped by for a visit.
What nice folks. Hopefully we'll cross paths with them again one of these day. :-)
Today we're going to try to get as far as Frankfort, KY, but looking at the radar, there's a big line of t-storms between here and there that are heading this way. On TV, they're saying that they're dissipating, but so far, I haven't seen much dissipating on the radar. :-(
So . . . . . I guess we'll just wait until it's about time to leave here and see what's happening at that time before deciding what to do. We could stay here for another day if we had to.
Did you know that West Virginia has an mean altitude of 1,500 feet, giving it the highest average altitude east of the Mississippi?
65 Deg. clear, no wind.

They're Back and Still Nothing New
Virginia Beach, VA.
62 deg. rain, thunder, no wind.
Forecast today = Cloudy. Scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms in the morning...then scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 70s. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.
Well, Blogger is finally back on and it looks like all of my posts have been re-installed. That was not the case last night when I checked. My last post was gone as well as some other writings that I had saved as draft to be used at a later date.
Still not much happening around here. Joe, Nancy, Sami and Amber have been really busy so Jim and Linda have not seen much of them.
The weather has been great, but being that I'm sitting right in the middle of a residential area, Jim is hesitant to do too much unpacking and re-packing of my compartments, or the back of CLT. (Which is really needed.) So, not much has been getting done.
Now, for the rest of the time that we'll be here, (we'll be leaving Thursday), they're forecasting on and off rain for the entire period.
Oh well, I guess it'll all get done eventually. ;-)
Well, I'd better finish this and get it posted. As you can probably tell, I really don't have anything new.
Thanks for stopping by. Catch ya all later.

Emporia To Virginia Beach and Back To Joe And Nancy's
Virginia Beach, VA.
51 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 70s. North winds 5 to 10 mph.
If you read yesterday's post, you know that it was raining while I was writing it. Well, being that we didn't have far to go, and by the radar, it looked like it was going to quit shortly, Jim just waited it out, and by about 10:00 it stopped!!! :-) So, Jim dumped my tanks again, (there's no place to dump my tanks here at Joe's), unhooked the utilities, and by about 10:30 we were pulling out of the Jellystone Park.
And, he didn't have to get wet doing it! ;-)
From Emporia we took US 58 to the East and followed it to Chesapeake where we turned SE on I-64. 64 then took us around to the South of the Norfolk / Portsmouth area and up to I-264. We then followed 264 to the East and to Virginia Beach.
It was 12:30 when we pulled up in front of Joe and Nancy's house, so it took us almost exactly 2 hours to travel 102 miles. Not too bad considering that by the time we got to Chesapeake we had caught up with the rain, and the traffic had gotten pretty heavy.
Being that it was Sunday, both Joe and Nancy were home, so after h and h, Joe helped Jim get me backed into the driveway. It was nice having another pair of eyes to watch to make sure I got parked without getting off on the grass or hitting anything.
After getting me parked, hooked up to water, (3 hoses hooked together and connected behind Nancy's washer in the garage), plugged into the electric, (only a 20 Amp circuit in the garage), Jim and Linda went into the house and spent some time catching up on what's been happening since we were here last fall.
Everyone seems to be doing well, and it is quite evident that both Sami (16 years old), and Amber, (14 years old), have grown a lot since we last saw them. (I think Amber must have grown a couple of inches).
They're both turning into beautiful young women. ;-)
After talking for awhile, Jim and Linda came back out here. Jim took a nap and Linda did some reading. Then, about 6:00 they went back into the house and enjoyed the steaks that Joe cooked out on his new grill and the broccoli and mashed potatoes that Nancy cooked inside.
.
Both Jim and Linda said that the meal was excellent!!! :-)
.
Then, after the meal they gave Linda a card, a present and some cut flowers for Mother's Day.
.
That made Linda's day! :-)
.
Today, Joe and Nancy will be going to work and the girls will be going to school, so it'll be pretty quiet around here. In fact that's what will happen most days. So . . . for the next 10 days or so, Jim and Linda will be doing some shopping, some reading, and other everyday things. Most of the evenings will be spent visiting with family.

A Little Shopping, Africa, "Cool Dillon" and Getting Ready
Apex, NC
47 Deg. scattered clouds, no wind.
Forecast today = Partly sunny. Showers and thunderstorms likely this afternoon. Highs in the lower 70s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.
Again, we had a beautiful day here in Apex yesterday. Oh, it was quite cool in the morning, but by noon, it warmed up nicely and there wasn't a cloud in the deep blue sky. :-)
In the morning, Jim checked my fluid levels and tires in preparation of us leaving here tomorrow. Then in the afternoon, he and Linda took CLT and headed down to Pittsboro to the Piggly Wiggly Grocery store, where they picked up a few items that they needed before we get to Virginia Beach.
When they got back here they put the groceries away and then took little naps. Then, before you knew it, it was time to head over to Mike and Gina's.
During the last few evenings, Savanna has been working on a school project where she wrote a paper and then made, (with her dad's help), a model of the African Grasslands. She is taking it to school this morning so Jim took a photo of it for me to post here.
I think it turned out really good. :-)
For dinner, Gina made "Sloppy Joe's" and corn and Linda brought some cornbread muffins that she had made here in my oven. Then, a little later on in the evening, while the kids were playing outside and all the adults were out there talking and watching them. Jim snapped this photo of "cool Dillon", "cruisin' the neighborhood" on his bike. ;-)
He's just learning to ride it and was having fun riding up and down the driveway.
About 8:00 CLT brought Jim and Linda back out here to Jordan Lake and then it was the usual TV, embroidery work and computers until bedtime.
Today there's nothing much planned except to meet Mike, Gina and the kids at a restaurant in downtown Apex for dinner. I imagine that Jim and Linda will start putting stuff away and getting me ready to travel.
Did you know that the trend of celebrating mother's day can be attributed to the ancient Greeks, who celebrated this holiday in the spring season to honor Rhea, the mother of the gods?

Good Timing, Gin And Syl and Jim And Dee
Apex, NC
47 Deg. clear, light southerly winds
Forecast today = Sunny. Highs in the upper 60s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
You couldn't have asked for better timing. Gin and Syl were expected out here at Jordan lake about 11:00 and about 9:00 the rain stopped and by 10:30 the sun was peaking out from behind the clouds. So, by the time they got here, the sun was shining the skies were clearing and it was warming up nicely. :-)
After talking for 1/2 hour or so, Jim fired up the grill and cooked hamburgers for everyone while Linda put together a bacon and green bean dish, got out chips and condiments for the burgers and the brownies that she had made the day before. Gin and Syl brought some potato salad and a broccoli salad and so by the time they had everything set out on my kitchen counter, they had all the fixin's' for a great meal. :-)
After talking for awhile longer and before they all headed up to the Fairgrounds to see Jim and Dee, Jim took this photo of Syl and Gin. As you can see the weather had cleared up nicely and it turned out to be a great day.
I think it was about 1:45 when they left here and headed up to the Raleigh State Fairgrounds. CLT said that it took about 45 minutes to get up there and find the new CG. He also said that it's a lot nicer than the old CG where we had stayed at 3 or 4 years ago, and was away from the busy road and all the traffic.
Jim took this photo of Dee and Jim standing outside of their very nice Cameo 5th wheel.
After talking for a couple of hours, it was time for Jim and Linda to head over to Mike's for dinner. So, after h and h they headed back to Apex for a very nice meal and more visiting with Mike and his family.
Jim and Linda said that it sure was good to see Gin and Syl and Jim and Dee again. All are good people and Jim and Linda are hoping to meet up with them again.
So . . . . . . Another great day with great friends. Having and making new friends all over the country is one of the benefits that Jim and Linda never thought about as they were getting ready to go full-timing almost 10 years ago. :-)
A Point to Ponder : If ignorance is bliss, why aren’t more people happy?

It Doesn't Look Good and A Busy Day
Apex, NC
55 deg. rain, light S. winds
Forecast today = Mostly cloudy. Showers likely...mainly this morning. Not as warm with highs in the upper 60s. Northwest winds around 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.
It doesn't look good!!! :-(
"What doesn't look good", You ask?
It doesn't look good for Jim to be cooking burgers out on the grill and eating outside when Gin and Syl come for lunch today. Elizabeth, (the weather gal on TV), is saying that it's supposed to clear up later, but by the radar, I have my doubts if it'll clear by noon. Jim should still be able to cook the burgers outside under my awning, but I'm quite sure they'll have to eat inside.
That's OK though. I've had more than 4 people eating inside of me many times before. I can handle that! ;-)
Jim called Jim and Dee, who are staying at the Raleigh Fairgrounds CG, yesterday morning and since Gin and Syl are going up there to see them after they leave here, Jim and Linda are going to follow them up there. Dee seemed really excited that everyone was coming to visit and I'm guessing everyone will have a great time. :-)
So, today is going to be a busy day. First Gin and Syl come here, then everyone heads up to the Fairgrounds to see Jim and Dee, and then after they leave Jim and Dee's, Jim and Linda will stop by Mike and Gina's for dinner.
Whew!!! I'm getting tired just thinking about it!!! ;-)
Did you know that on May 4, 1965, San Francisco Giants outfielder Willie Mays hit his 512th career home run to break Mel Ott’s National League record for home runs? Mays would finish his career with 660 home runs, good for third on the all-time list at the time of his retirement

Grocery Shopping, Company Coming and An Invitation
Apex, NC
55 deg. mostly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = Partly sunny. Highs in the upper 70s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
It was another beautiful day yesterday, but Jim and Linda really didn't take advantage of it. Instead, they took CLT and headed to the Lowes Foods Grocery store to buy some groceries that they were needing. Then, after getting them all put away in my cabinets and refrigerator, they both took naps. ;-)
Yeah, there were other times during the day when Jim and Linda could have been outside, but Jim said that he just didn't feel real well, and Linda's back was bothering her some, so they didn't do much else.
Later this afternoon, Mike and his family are coming out here for awhile. Jim's going to cook some burgers on his grill and he also bought some firewood on the way back from grocery shopping, so that if anyone wants to, they can cook hot dogs, brats or marshmallows over a fire.
Oh, Jim got an e-mail and I got a comment from Jim and Dee Walter, who are camping up at the fairgrounds in Raleigh. They're wanting to know if Jim and Linda could come up there for a visit or get together somehow. Well, today when Mike comes, we'll find out what their schedule is and then maybe they can make plans to get together one day this week. Dee suggested maybe coming up there with Gin and Syl after they come here for lunch on Wednesday, and that may work.
Well, I guess that's about it for today. Jim and Linda will be busy getting me presentable for Mike and Gina's visit today, Linda wants to get some food ready ahead of time, and Jim will be put the tablecloth on the picnic table and getting the outside stuff ready.
I'm sure glad they're forecasting nice weather for today. It'll be lots of fun seeing Mike, Gina, Brenna, Savanna and Dillon again. :-)
Did you know that May is "National Barbecue Month"?
Happy May Day!!!! ;-)

Purrrrfect and Company Coming
Apex, NC
50 Deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = Sunny. Highs in the mid 70s. North winds around 5 mph.
The weather yesterday was just about as close to perfect as you can get. We had temperatures in the mid 70's, low humidity and a nice little breeze blowing at about 10 mph or so. In fact, the weather was so nice that both Jim and Linda sat outside under my awning for quite awhile, just enjoying it. ;-)
Not a real lot happened around here. There were lots of RVs coming into the park for the weekend, and with them came lots of kids who rode around the park on bikes, people walking their dogs and quite a few campfires.
For dinner, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to Mike's. Then, after Mike got home form work and got ready, they all headed over to a Carrabba's Restaurant. Jim said that he had the grilled salmon and Linda had spaghetti.
Both said that their meals were very good. :-)
After finishing their meals, Jim and Linda came back here and Mike, Gina and the kids went back home, after stopping to do a little shopping.
Today, Mike and his family are going to be busy, so we won't be seeing them, but Sunday afternoon, they're coming out here for an evening meal of hamburgers, hot dogs and brats.
It should be fun. ;-)
Oh, and I almost forgot!!! Syl and Gin called, (You remember them, they were at the Rally in Sevierville, and also came out here to Jordan lake to visit me the last time we were here), and they are going to come out here to the campground for lunch next Wednesday! :-) I heard Jim tell Syl that he'd cook some burgers on the grill and I think they said that they were going to bring a salad. And, I'm sure that Linda will come up with a desert too. ;-)

And, I'm sure that Linda will come up with a desert too. ;-)

More Storms, My Site and Another Nice Visit
Apex, NC.
53 Deg.partly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = Mostly sunny. Isolated sprinkles this afternoon. Highs in the mid 70s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
We had some wind here for awhile, but all the storms either went just to the North or the South of Apex. Jim did spend quite a bit of time watching their paths on radar though because small cells kept popping up all over the place.
Many folks in the SE were not so lucky though and our hearts and prayers go out to all who were hit by the many, many tornadoes and storms.
During one of the breaks in the weather, Jim went out and took a few photos of me in my site. As you can see, I'm well off the road and my site is surrounded by trees. This is actually the type of site I like the best. :-)
This is the view looking down the road from my site.
Because of the weather, Jim and Linda didn't go anywhere during the day yesterday. Jim went outside a few times, (between showers), but it was so hot and muggy that he didn't stay out long.
Then about 4:30 he and Linda headed over to Mike's and had another very nice dinner with him and his family. The skies had cleared by that time and the sun was shinning so CLT had a nice little trip over there. After another nice visit, Jim and Linda came back here and watched TV until bedtime.
Oh, I want to thank Gale and Rick, (one of my followers of this blog), who made a comment yesterday telling us about some more RV parks over in the Moncure area. Jim knew about one of the parks but didn't realize that there were 2 more over there. He says he'll check them out if he and Linda get the chance.
So . . . . it looks like the nasty weather is behind us for awhile. The weather gal on TV is saying that it should be nice all the way through the weekend and she's not forecasting any rain until next Tuesday. :-)
Good! Everything around here needs a little chance to dry out.
