Too Much Stuff

Mahomet, IL.
62 deg. clear, SW wind @ 5 mph.
Forecast today = Becoming mostly cloudy. A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms by afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.

I didn't know I had that much stuff inside of me!!!! (OK now, no wise cracks) Celia, the gal from R & S that  has been helping Jim and Linda move just keeps finding more and more things to take over to Emrys. She has been a great help and in fact has carried most of the stuff from inside of me over to Linda so she can try to find a spot for it. While they were doing that, Jim has been moving all the stuff in my basement and also helping Linda and Celia at times.

You know, It's kind of nice knowing that I have more storage space than a 45' MH. :-)  There's no doubt about it that I have more basement space and I think I even have more inside storage space. Jim and Linda are having a lot of trouble finding room for everything and they still have all that stuff in the storage room over at the CG to deal with when they return there. :-(

It should be interesting.

After Jim and Linda worked hard all day yesterday, they decided to go to an Arby's restaurant for a sandwich last night. After returning, they both just collapsed for the evening.

I've been talking to Emrys about a blog. He's never done anything like that before but I'm trying to assure him that it's not too hard and can actually be fun, writing about all the places he'll be going and the things that Jim and Linda will be doing. I think he's starting to come around, but he's still very hesitant.

If he does start a new blog or continue with this one, I hope that all of my faithful readers will  continue to follow the blog and be patient with him as he "learns the ropes" of blogging. He really seems nice and I think that you'll like him.

Did you know that today is "National Flip Flop Day"?

A Busy, Busy Day and A Surprise Visit

Rantoul, IL.
70 Deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = Partly sunny with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s. Light north winds.

I didn't think much was going to get done yesterday. Jim didn't do much at all in the morning, in fact he didn't even go outside until about 9:30, and by that time, it was already starting to get pretty hot and muggy.

Evidently he decided to dump my tanks because that's what he did first and then did a little sorting in one of my basement compartments. Abut the time he was done with that, Louise, (the campground hostess), came by and they talked for a few minutes.

While they were talking, Jim mentioned that he was kind of dreading moving everything from me into the Newmar MH and said he figured it would take 2 or 3 days at least for he and Linda to do it. Well, Louise suggested that Jim go get some boxes and put a bunch of the stuff that's inside of me, into the boxes and then put the boxes in the storage area over at the bath house. That way, there won't be so much stuff to move over at the dealer's lot, and then when they get back here with the Newmar, they can take their time packing the rest of the stuff into the compartments and cabinets.

Wow!!! What a great idea!! The stuff that will be stored here will be safe, (locked up in the storage area), and it won't take so long over at the dealer's lot!!!

So , , , , , Jim took CLT and headed into town to find some boxes. His first stop was a liquor store. The reasoning was that those boxes are built more sturdy than regular cardboard boxes because they have to be stronger for the bottles. He got 5 boxes there and then went to the Auto Zone store where he picked up 5 or 6 more boxes that were used for oil and other merchandise.

When he got back, he and Linda went to work pulling stuff out of cabinets and packing it in the boxes. By the time most of the boxes were full, about 1/2 of my cabinets were empty. Now, don't get me wrong, there's still a lot of stuff to move, but it should be much easier that if would have been.

So, I have boxes sitting everywhere. Today, Jim will get hold of Louise and get her to unlock the storage area so he can put the boxes and a bunch of the totes from my basement in there.

Soon after lunch, the phone rang and it was Dave and Dee Dee. (Part of the Illinois Bunch), They were up in Kankakee and would be passing Rantoul on I-57 on their way to their home home in Neoga, IL. and wanted to know if it would be OK if they stopped by for a little while to  visit. Well, of course Jim said that it would be great if they'd stop by, so in about an hour, they pulled up in front of my site and came in to visit for about an hour. :-)

I'm sure most of my regular readers will remember Dave and Dee Dee. They're the ones that put on the great fish fry when we're all down in Thonotosassa, FL during the winter.

Well anyway, Jim and Linda had moved a few boxes around so that there was seating for everyone, so they all sat and talked for about an hour. Part of the discussion was about what everyone has been doing since they had last seen each other, part about the Newmar and part about possible plans for Dave, Dee Dee and the rest of the Illinois bunch, (Denny and Bev and Gordy and Dorthy), to come here to the park sometime in August or early September.

After they left, Jim and Linda continued packing boxes and then about 4:00, they decided that they had done enough for the day and decided to relax. After a light dinner, Jim went out and rolled up all my awnings and put all the outside stuff away as the forecast was for possible severe t-storms.

We didn't have any severe weather right here, but did have some wind, lightning and rain. There were some reports of very strong winds not too far from here though.

Today Jim wants to get those boxes and totes moved to the storage area. Then, he's hoping that he can relax for awhile and watch the NASCAR race on TV as it'll be the last one that he'll see for awhile since they're switching over to broadcasting the races on cable channels after this one.

Like I said in the Title of this post, it was a busy, busy day, but a lot got accomplished and both Jim and Linda feel good about the progress.

More Of The Same and Making Hard Decisions Again

Rantoul, IL.
73 deg. clear, S. wind @ 6 mph.
Forecast today = Increasing clouds. A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some storms may be severe with damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Highs in the lower 90s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.

Yesterday was more of the same. Jim was out early and sorting through totes and boxes in my basement. Then when it got hot outside, (we had temperatures in the 90's yesterday with high humidity), he came inside and helped Linda, who was going through cabinets inside of me and doing the same sorting, condensing and throwing away, that he had been doing.

A very busy day, but he did manage to get in a nice nap in the afternoon though.  ;-)

I don't know if Jim will be doing much outside today, it's already 73 degrees and very humid. He doesn't have a real lot more to do in my basement, but it needs to be done so he'll probably try to do a little more.

One other thing that both Jim and Linda will have to deal with is their clothes. There's not as much clothes hanging space in the Newmar, but there are more cabinets and drawers. So, some of the clothes that are now hanging up in my 2 large closets will now have to be folded and put into the cabinets and drawers.

There's also the matter of clothes that haven't been worn for awhile. What to do? Do they give it away to Good-Will or something or will they need it/want it in the near future?

Jim says that moving into a different RV is very close to selling a house and moving into an RV to go full-timing. You don't have to get rid of as much "stuff", but you still need to re-evaluate everything and go through the same process of making those hard decisions again. You don't want to get rid of something that you'll be needing, but how do you know what that is? Jim and Linda have been at this full-tining thing long enough to know that at times, you do get caught in weather conditions that you're not expecting, (that heavy coat that Jim still has in the closet sure came handy in Deming NM a few years ago, when it got down to 18 degrees), or will have some kind of problem that you need that special tool for.

Or, the microwave/convection oven will break and you'll need that pan that you haven't used for years to cook a meal. (Still haven't heard anything from the repair guy).

So, , , , , , the process continues. More decisions will be made and hopefully they'll be the right ones. Any of you who have gone, or are getting ready to, go full-timing know what it's like.

Linda called Laura yesterday and told here about the new MH. Things have been so busy around here that niether Jim or Linda have talked to any of the kids lately. I'm thinking that maybe they better get on the phone this weekend and let the other kids know what's going on too!!!

Dump Day

Lakeland, FL.
63 deg. mostly cloudy, no wind
Forecast today = high temp. 79 deg. partly cloudy, E. wind @ 10 to 15 mph.

No! No! I'm not "down in the dumps" again. ;-)

Yesterday was the day that Glenn, (the shop foreman), drove me over to the other side of the building so that Jim could dump my black and grey water holding tanks.

Boy, were they ever full!!!

Then, he drove me over to the other building where Jim filled my fresh water tank with water that has been softened. You see, they have a huge water softener here so they have soft water to wash these fancy coaches that come here for work.

You don't want any water spots on a million dollar Prevost. ;-)

Anyhow, after dumping and filling, Glenn brought me back to my site and then Jim leveled me again and hooked up the electric.

Now, I've got to say a little something about Glenn.

Like I said, he's the shop foreman and is responsible for getting all the RVs into the shop or into the parking spaces in the lot. Being that the lot is small and hard to navigate through, they do not let any of the customers park their own vehicles, so Glenn does all the moving and parking.

Well, I'm here to tell you that he is probably one of the best RV drivers that I have ever seen. It doesn't matter if it's a 45' coach, a class B van, or a 5th wheel trailer, he'll put it into a spot where most RVers could only dream of parking. I have seen him back a 45'coach around a corner and into a spot where there were only inches of room on either side of the coach!

Now, when it's really tight, or when he can't see because the mirrors have been removed for some reason, (such as a repair), one of the mechanics will come out and help him, but that's not real often.

So, if you ever bring your MH or RV here for work, you can be confident that the person moving it knows exactly what he's doing and will take good care of it.

Last night for dinner, Jim got out his grill and cooked a nice big juicy steak that he and Linda shared. Meanwhile, Linda cooked some cauliflower on my stove and baked some biscuits in my new oven.

It all really smelled good to me. ;-)

Addressing Comments and I've Moved

Rantoul, IL.
70 Deg., clear, SE wind @ 4 mph.
Forecast today = high temp. 92 deg., humid, S. wind @ 5 to 10 mph., 20% chance of showers.

OK, before I get started on anything else, I need to address a couple of comments that I've received lately. The folks posting the comments, want to know if I'll be taking Jim and Linda to Goshen and to the SKP Escapade that they are having there. I'm sorry to say the I won't be taking them there because by that time, we'll be on our way back out to the East Coast to see kids and grand kids.

The temperature yesterday got up to 94 degrees, by the thermometer on my North side. On the news, they're saying that it didn't get up that high, but my thermometer has been pretty accurate in the past so I'm inclined to go by what it said.  Now, they're saying that today and tomorrow the temperatures are supposed to be even hotter!!!!

Guess what? I've moved!!! Yep, not far, but never the less, I've moved. How far and where did I move to, you ask?

Well, let me explain what happened.

Yesterday morning, Jim was outside drinking his coffee and walking around in the area, when he happened to look up into the huge tree that is on my North side. Well, what he saw made him stop in his tracks. You see, what he saw was a very large rotten area in one of the big branches that was extending over the rear of me!!! At least 1/2 of the outside of the branch is rotted away and the inside is also very rotten. This branch is about 8 to 10 inches in diameter, is very long and extends over my site.

So...... being that Jim had parked me quite far back in the site, he decided that it would be a good idea to pull me ahead about 20' to get me out from under the branch. Now, I don't have quite as much shade as I had before, but it's better than sitting under that branch and worrying about it falling on me if it storms.

In the afternoon, Jim and Linda took CLT had headed over to the IGA store and bought groceries. By the time they returned, the temperature was in the 90's so the rest of the day was spent inside of me watching TV and playing with the computers.

Oh, also, Jim and Linda did get a valance installed on my large kitchen window. I really like the way it looks and if I can get Jim to take a photo of it, I'll post it as soon as I can.

Did you know that trees do not have life expectancies like humans? Some in California are believed to be four-thousand years old or more. How can trees live so long? The simple answer is that they're not as complex as people. So, as long as conditions are right, trees continue to live and grow, until something interrupts it.
