Sevierville, TN
56 deg. overcast, light rain, N. wind @ 4 mph.
Forecast today = high temp. 63 deg. overcast, rain, breezy with SW winds @ 15 to 25 mph.
Yesterday was a kick-back day for Jim and Linda. They didn't do much except watch TV, visit with the neighbors a little and keep an eye on the weather.
If you remember, yesterday they were forecasting wind gusts up around 50 mph. Well, they never materialized but it was pretty windy and later in the day and the skies did get pretty dark at times. Then late afternoon, it started to rain and we've had rain off and on since then.
We got some more bad news yesterday when Jim and Pat Thomas, (Mr. and Miss. Alfie), stopped by in the afternoon. Jim and Linda were wondering why they didn't come to the Pot Luck dinner Thursday night, well, it was because Jim was in the emergency room at the hospital!!!!
The doctors were able to temporarily help him, but now it's necessary for him to go home to his doctor for further treatment. :-( So . . . . this morning, they will be leaving here and heading back to Georgia where they already have an appointment for Jim Monday morning.
That's too bad. Jim and Linda really enjoy visiting with Jim and Pat and will miss them. And of course, I'll miss seeing my buddy Thor too. :-(
Today, (the last full day of the Rally), there's a few more seminars this morning and a "rig walk-through" this afternoon. For the "walk-through", some of the folks here at the Rally open up their rigs and let others come in and see how it's made/designed/modified inside. It's completely voluntary so some open up their RVs and some don't. Jim and Linda have never felt comfortable opening me up to lots of people, so they don't participate although they have brought people they know a little better inside to show them my interior from time to time.
This evening, there's a "Catered Dinner" for all the Rally attendees over at the banquet hall and then a "70's Theme Party" after the dinner.
Sounds like fun. ;-)
Did you know that today is "Husband Appreciation Day"?
Get well, Jim. We're thinking about you!!! :-)

Jim's Post
Virginia Beach, VA
61 Deg. mostly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 74 deg. mostly cloudy, 70% chance of showers and t-storms, E. wind @ 10 to 15 mph.
Today, I'm turning this blog over to Jim. (Just for today, so don't get worried), ;-) I really don't have anything to write about and he wants to talk about our Full-timing lifestyle, so here goes ......I hope he doesn't mess everything up.
Hi all!!
First of all, let me say that I really appreciate Myrddin turning this blog over to me because there are some things that I have been thinking about that I think others might benefit from. These are random thoughts and not in any order.
Full-timing is not all fun!
Most of it is, but there are times when you ask yourself, "Why am I living this lifestyle"? Or, "What have I done"? Take for instance the time we were driving Myrddin west on US 2 east of Havre Montana, in the middle of nowhere, and his engine just stopped!!! Instant panic!!!! Or the time I was driving Mariah, (Myrddin's predecessor), through a parking lot, turned too soon and tore up the front fender on a brand new Jeep Liberty and took part of the rear bumper off of the Motorhome. Panic again!!!!! Or, how about the time when we were in Demming, NM and Linda cut her toe almost to the bone? Or how about sitting at a repair shop for 2 weeks waiting on parts, or turning down the wrong street and ending up in a residential area on a dead-end street with no place to turn around?
We made it through all of these things, and a lot more, but at the time, we were not having fun!!!
My point is that even though Full-timing is a wonderful lifestyle, you can expect some serious problems. If they have not happened to you yet, they will happen!
You can't plan for these things because you never know what is going to happen, so you have to try to deal with them as they occur, but that's not always easy. I carry some spare parts for Myrddin, but for some reason, I usually don't have the right thing. I am however usually able to get things working well enough to get him to a repair shop. As for medical emergencies, almost any town has a doctor that will see you for an emergency and there's always a hospital, the paramedics or an ambulance if it's serious enough. And, with a little help, you can back that RV out of that dead-end street.
Some people try to plan ahead for everything that they imagine could possibly happen. I know some people like to try to cover all of their bases, and that's OK, but believe me you'll never cover them all, and you'll just worry yourself to death in the process. The full-timing lifestyle can be great if you don't worry too much. We have found through the years that everything, however horrible it may seem at the time, will work out in the long run.
When we went full-timing back on 2001, part of the reason was to get out of the rat-race that we were in. It took a lot of work, yes that four letter word, "work", (especially on my part), to slow down and be able to relax without having the constant feeling that I had to hurry to get someplace or to get something done. I even went as far as to set the cruise control on the MH to 5 mph below the speed limit to slow myself down. And we intentionally stayed for a few extra days at different camp grounds, even though they were not the best, to slow down our traveling pace.
Would you believe that it took almost a year of doing this before I really started to feel relaxed?
Do I still worry? Oh yes, I'm a worrier at heart, but for the most part I can look back at our past experiences and realize that I'm probably worrying for nothing. But, every once in awhile, I get worried and all worked up by something and then Linda comes along and calms me down, and everything works itself out.
The moral of this story?
Try to relax. It's a great lifestyle if you don't let things bother you too much. It may seem like the end of the world has come, but it has not, and life will go on and it will be good if you let it.
May your days be warm, and your skies be blue.
May your roads be smooth, and your views ever-new.
Jim
Geez, Jim!!! Did you have to bring up that episode out by Havre, Montana? I was trying to forget it!!!!

Linda's Tests and Dinner With Mike And Jodi
Rantoul, IL.
68 Deg. clear, SE wind @ 5 mph.
Forecast today = high temp.92 deg. sunny, S. wind @ 10 to 15 mph.
Now, I hope some of you don't faint after reading this, but yesterday morning, Linda got up at about 6:00 AM!!!! I know, I know, a lot of people get up at 6:00, but if you know Linda, she's not a morning person and almost never gets up that early!!!
OK. Now I can hear you asking, "So why did she get up so early?" Well...... If you remember, a few weeks ago, she went to this new doctor, and he wanted her to go and have some tests done, So.....yesterday was the day they were scheduled. Of course these tests had to be done at a hospital, so CLT took Linda and Jim to the Gibson City Hospital in (where else), Gibson City, IL, which is about 25 miles NW of here.
One of the test was to test her blood. Now from what I can gather, it's kind of like me getting my oil tested. The test finds out if there's any bad stuff floating around in there, and then if there is, the mechanic, (or doctor in Linda's case), can try to fix the problem.
Another test Linda had was to test her frame. I don't know too much about that test except it was some kind of test to see if it was getting weak. I guess this is kind of like what happened to a trailer friend of mine. He had to get his frame repaired because the salt and junk from the road had made little holes in his frame and they had to weld new sections in to make him strong again.
Hmmmm!! I don't know how they'd fix a human's frame.
Now, Linda had couple of other tests done too, but she says that this blog is not the place to talk about them. She said that you ladies that are reading this would know what she means. ;-)
After all the tests were done, and because Linda couldn't eat anything before she had her tests, CLT took Linda and Jim to a restaurant in Gibson City that he had seen on their way to the hospital. It's called the Kountry Kettle Restaurant and it was right along the way. Both Jim and Linda had biscuits and gravy and they said that is was really good.
When they got back to Rantoul, they stopped at Wally World to make an appointment for Linda to get new eye glasses. She's had her current ones for quite awhile and when she went to see her retinaologist the other day, he suggested that she get new ones. (She made an appointment for Wednesday morning.) From Wally World, they went to the post office and picked up their mail.
After doing all of this, they got back here a little before noon. The afternoon was spent playing with the computers reading and taking naps.
Last night, CLT took Jim and Linda down to the Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Urbana where they had dinner with Mike and Jodi. I was hoping that they would have a cookout here at the CG, but because of the tests and other things going on, it was decided that they would meet down there. From what I could gather from listening to Jim and Linda, it sounds like they had a very nice meal and lots of good conversation. They were gone for quite awhile, so they must have been enjoying themselves.
CLT said that there were h and h (hugs and handshakes), out in the parking lot after the meal and talk about getting together again when we come back here next year.
I sure hope so, they're a really nice couple. :-)

Great News and CLT Gets A New Tow Bar
Orange City, FL.
43 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 69 deg. mostly sunny, SE wind @ 5 mph.
Great News!!!!!! As of yesterday evening, Dee Dee is doing much better. She's been up and walking around with Dave's assistance, they've removed all the tubes, and the doctor suggested that she may be able to come back home, (to their 5th wheel), today or tomorrow!!
Yeeeaaaa!!!!!
It was another cold day yesterday, but the wind wasn't blowing as strong as the day before. Linda stayed inside and worked on her embroidery project and did some more with her recipe database.
Jim didn't even go outside until Denny rang my doorbell about noon, and asked Jim if he wanted to go to Camping World with him. Denny wanted to get one of those big white plastic tubes that you store sewer hoses in, and a new battery for his Motorhome. Jim said that he'd like to go along, so after getting ready, he headed over to Denny's and they took off.
Now, the Camping World store is only about 4 miles from here, so it didn't take them long to get over there. When they did, Denny went to look for his items while Jim looked at tow bars.
OK, now I can hear you asking, "Why was he looking at tow bars"? "Doesn't he already have one for CLT"? (Cute Little Truck) Well, you see, CLT's tow bar was purchased way back in 1999 and was used to pull Jim and Linda's first small truck, TTT (Tiny Tin Truck), behind their Winnebago Chieftain Motorhome. (Mariah), before it was transferred to CLT with me towing him.
Did you get that??? :-)
Anyway, the tow bar has been used ever since then, and by Jim's figures, it has well over 100,000 towing miles on it, and to be honest, I've been getting a little concerned about all the worn joints and bushings on it. When I start out or come to a stop, there is a lot of movement in those joints and bushings and things kind of jerk around back there.
So.... Jim ended up buying a new tow bar and now it'll just be a matter of replacing the old one with it. It should fit right on CLT without any modifications.
Denny didn't find the battery he wanted at the price he wanted, so after Camping World, they headed to Wally World where he found what he wanted. Then they came back here and unloaded the new tow bar, opened the box, and checked it out.
By the time they did all of that, it was almost time for "Happy Hour", so Jim grabbed a cold one had headed over to Gordy's site. Denny went over there a few minutes later.
After "Happy Hour" Jim came back here and he and Linda ate some salad that Linda put together, and some spaghetti and chicken Parmesan that was left over from a restaurant. Then it was Super Bowl time and they spent the rest of the evening watching the Saints beat the Colts.
I don't know a real lot about football, but I thought it was a pretty good game! :-)
Did you know that Bart Starr was the MVP of the first two Super Bowls?
Glad your feeling better, Dee Dee!!!! :-)

Not Much To Report and A Storm.
Thonotosassa, FL.
58 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today= high temp. 68 deg. mostly sunny, W. wind @ 10 to 15 mph W/20 mph gusts.
Not much to report on Dee Dee's recovery. Jim talked to Dave yesterday morning as he was leaving to go to the hospital to see her, and he said that she was still in a lot of pain and didn't seem to be doing too well. :-(
Hopefully the news will be better today.
Linda did a load of laundry yesterday and then spent a couple of hours visiting with Bev over at their Motor Home. Then for dinner, she heated up some left-over spaghetti and beef.
About noon yesterday, the weather people started talking about some possible severe weather heading into this area, so Jim and Denny went over to Dave and Dee Dee's site and secured some of the items they had sitting outside. Dave's got enough to worry about with Dee Dee. He doesn't need to have to worry about his lawn chairs and stuff blowing away.
About 2:30 or 3:00 the storms hit this area. There were tornado watches and warnings for our area, but we didn't have and real strong winds right here at the park. Just a few miles from here at the State Fair though, they had some tents blown down and some people were injured. We did have some very heavy rain though.
Today, I have no idea what's going on. I know that Jim wants to dump my tanks, and from the heavy rain, a bunch of sand washed on top of the patio mat by my door, so that needs to be cleaned off.
Did you know that out of 20,000 species of bees, only 4 make honey?

A Few Photos, Visiting, and Pizza
Thonotosassa, FL
51 deg. partly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 76 deg. partly cloudy, breezy with E. winds @ 10 to 15 mph.
.
The only news I've heard about Dee Dee is that she is out of intensive care and into a room. It is expected that she will be staying at the hospital for a total of at least 5 days. :-( I sure hope she gets better soon so she can come here to the park and recover.
.
Jim took a few photos yesterday morning, (I was beginning to think he forgot how to use his camera), of my site and the park. Here are a couple of them. In the first one, you can see that I don't have any shade at all. The tree in the photo is actually behind me and to the North, so it doesn't shade my site at all.
This next photo shows how short this site is. I'm backed up as far as I can, and my front bumper is still only about 4 feet from the road.
Actually the site is not too bad because I do fit OK and I'm very close to Denny and Bev's RV and Linda is able to get over there without having to walk too far.

For the 2 weeks that we'll be here, it'll be fine. :-)
.
Linda did go over and visit with Bev yesterday. Bev has a real tough time with stairs, so she doesn't get out too much, and it seems like she really likes it when people come to visit. Linda was over there for quite awhile, so they must have had a good time. :-)
.
Denny and Gordy came over and sat under my awning for awhile and visited with Jim. It was really nice out there, but the weather was kind of strange. When you were sitting in the sun, it was very warm, in fact almost too warm. But......if you moved into the shade, there was a little breeze blowing and soon you were chilly!
.
Like I said, kind of strange.
.
Jim rode his bike some yesterday, talked to some of the neighbors, and took a long nap in the afternoon. In fact his nap was so long, that he missed "happy hour" over at Gordy's. :-(
.
Earlier in the day, it had been decided that Denny and Bev and Jim and Linda would get together over at Denny's RV to eat Pizza for dinner. This has become kind of a tradition every time we're down here. So.... about 5:30 Jim walked over to Denny's and they headed over to Howie's Pizza and picked up a pizza that Bev had ordered. By the time they got back, Bev had made salads to go with the pizza, Linda was on her way over there and they all enjoyed a good meal together.
.
About 8:00 Jim and Linda came back here and then they watched a National Park program on TV until bedtime.

Another good day. :-)
.
Did you know that according to the Guinness Book of Records, the largest pizza made was made in Johannesburg, South Africa, and was 122' 8" in diameter. It was made on Dec 8, 1990.
.
Get well, Dee Dee.

Orange City To Thonotosassa, CG Problems and Dee Dee
Thonotosassa, FL.
63 deg. cloudy, light fog, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 73 deg. possible showers this morning, partly sunny this afternoon, W. wind @ 5 to 10 mph.
Happy Groundhog Day!!!!
Yesterday morning, by the time Jim pulled me out of my site, got CLT (Cute Little Truck) hooked up to the back of me, and we pulled out Orange City RV Resort, it was 9:25. We then got on I-4 and headed SW towards Orlando and Tampa. The traffic was moderate to heavy but I didn't mind, because it felt so good to be back out on the road and watching the pavement pass under me. :-)
Oh, and within a few miles my tires stopped itching too!!! ;-)
The rain held off until we got through Orlando, but soon after we passed through the city, it started raining fairly hard. Then, about 15 or 20 miles before we got to the Tampa area, it slowed to just a mist. There was only one place in Orlando where the traffic even slowed down some, but other than that, the whole trip down I-4 went very well.
It never ceases to amaze me the way some people drive. Right in the middle of Orlando, there was this guy that thought he was Kyle Bush. (A NASCAR race car driver, for those of you that don't know the name). He was changing lanes and darting between cars, in a very heavy traffic section, and sometimes it looked like he had only a few feet between him and the car he was pulling in front of. Now, we were going the speed limit at this time, and if he had made just the slightest mistake or misjudged the distance, there would have been a huge pile-up!
There were other drivers doing crazy things out there too, but this guy was the worst. I guess they think that they can get to their destination a little faster by driving like that. I think that they'll just get to the hospital faster and cause some other people to have to go there too. :-(
OK, back to yesterday's trip.
When we got down to Exit #10, we turned off of I-4 and onto Rt 579 and pulled into the T A Truck stop. It had been way back in November since I had my last drink and I was getting very thirsty! Jim didn't fill me completely up, but I got a nice big drink.
Boy! That good old #2 diesel fuel really tasted good.
After getting my drink, we continued North on Rt 579 for about 4 miles until we came to Thonotosassa and the Southern Aire RV Resort. It was about 11:40 when we pulled up in front of the office, so it had taken us about 2 hours and 15 minutes to travel 110 miles and stop and get my drink.
Not too bad.
As we pulled into the parking area by the office, I realized that the other RV waiting there was no other than Denny and Bev's Winnebago Brave!!! Denny is one of the "Illinois Bunch" that we come here to see, and they had just pulled in too! Jim went into the office to register me, and in a short time, came back out and unhooked CLT from the back of me.
Now, this is where the fun began!!! You see, the site that I was supposed to have was occupied and so the lady in the office assigned me the site right next to it. Well, that would have been OK, but when Jim tried to back me into the site, there was not enough room between a tree and the cement patio, (which is raised up about 4" higher than the ground) to get me in. With the help of the Park workers, he tried several different angles to get me back through there, but it just wasn't going to happen.
Now, the question was, what other sites were available? Well, Jim and the workers went back to the office and they finally found a site that I would fit into, but it only has 30 amp electric service and is almost too short for me. Well, being that the only other choice was to be way over by the fence and along side of Rt 579, Jim decided to take the shorter site.
The workers helped Jim get me backed into the site, and it's going to be OK, but it's not nearly as nice as the site I was supposed to have. The workers were upset because they thought that the office should have made the other people move, but to be honest, that has been a problem before at this park. Even though you reserve a site well in advance and put money down on it, they don't always save the site for you.
I think that is wrong, and if it wouldn't have been that we really wanted to be at this park to be with the "Illinois Bunch", I think Jim would have asked for his money back, and we would have gone to a different park!
I know this is getting long, but I've got one more thing that I need to tell you about. Dave and Dee Dee are back down here, (after Dee Dee's mother's funeral), and Sunday night, Dee Dee got a severe pain in her stomach. In fact it was so bad that Dave took her to the hospital. Well, come to find out, it's her gall bladder and she is going to have to have surgery to have it removed!!! So, this afternoon, she will have the operation and hopefully everything will go well.
I don't think she needs this right now! :-(
Did you know that the first Groundhog day was on this date in 1887?
63 deg. cloudy, light fog, no wind.

You Never Know and Home Alone
Orange City, FL.
52 deg. clear, no wind
Forecast today= high temp. 74 deg. partly sunny, E. wind @ 50 to 10 mph.
Well!!!! You just never know what is going to happen, and we sure had something happen around here!!!
It all started about a week ago when Jim was carrying groceries in to me from CLT. Just as he got to the top of my stairs, he all of a sudden got feeling really bad and had to sit down real quick because he was afraid that he was going to pass out. He sat for awhile and everything went back to normal, so he continued to bring in the groceries.
It scared him though.
Then, in the next days, he still didn't feel very well from time to time, but it wasn't anything like that first day. Then, Thursday morning, he woke up feeling bad and it didn't seem to get any better. He had this strange feeling in his upper abdomen / lower chest, and he was shaking.
Of course by this time, he was starting to think there might be something wrong with his heart!
Well, he woke Linda up and they decided to call Laura and ask her to come over. Now of course Laura is not a doctor, but she is a Registered Nurse with quite a bit of experience, and Jim really values her knowledge. Well, when she got here, it was decided that Jim should go to the emergency room at the hospital here in Orange City. So, they all loaded up in Laura's car and she took them over there.
Then, (as far as Jim is concerned), the "fun" began. they tested prodded, took some of his vital fluids, and ran all kinds of tests, like EKG's, pressure tests, and they even took a movie of his heart! Now, all of these test turned out OK, so Jim and Linda were feeling a little better, but there was one more test that needed to be run.
It was the dreaded "stress test", and the soonest it could be done, was Friday afternoon. So, Jim had to stay at the hospital overnight. (I think they wanted to keep him there for observation too, as they had him hooked up to a heart monitor the whole time).
So, being that Jim was going to have to stay overnight, Laura brought Linda back here to stay with me. Now, this was something new for Linda. She had never stayed home alone overnight in me before, and in fact, she and Jim had not been apart for even one night since they had begun full-timing way back in 2001!! And, this is the first time that either of them had slept in anything but a MH bed since that time either, so it was strange for Jim too!!
OK, back to the hospital thing. About 10:30 yesterday morning, Laura came over and picked up Linda and took her back over to the hospital. (She couldn't stay because he had other commitments). Then it was the "waiting game" with nurses coming in to check Jim's pressure, his operating temperature and taking more samples of his vital fluids. Then, finally it was time for "the test"!!
Jim says that if you don't feel bad when you start the test, the test will surely make you feel like you are going to die before they finally shut that treadmill off!! Then, he had to quickly get back on a bed so they could take another movie of his heart to see how it acted under stress!!
OK now I can here you saying, "OK Myrddin, get on with it!! What were the results of the test???"
Well, I'm happy to say that it looks like Jim and Linda will continue to travel, and they will be my owners for quite a while yet. :-) Jim passed all the test, and by about 8:30 last night, Jim and Linda were back here relaxing and watching my TV.
So... what was wrong with Jim to make him feel bad? We still don't know for sure, but Jim has always had some problems with his stomach and now they're thinking that it may have had something to do with that, or maybe an anxiety attack. (Or both).
Jim is going to be very careful of what he eats, and we'll go from there. If he starts feeling bad again, he'll need to see another doctor. Hopefully he'll feel alright, cause he really doesn't like doctors much. ;-)
Did you know that according to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were approximately 7,569 hospitals in the United States in 2005?
Good to have you back, Jim. :-)
