Hi all, Can you spell V i r u s ??????
Well this computer I'm using got a virus and Jim and Linda just had a guy from the Rantoul area out to get everything working again.
This virus stopped all internet connections and disabled the virus protection that Jim had installed on the computer.
So.... right now the computer is scanning with new virus software and I should be able to post a normal entry real soon and get all of you caught up on my travels.
We're back in Ranoul now and everyone is doing fine.
I'll post more later.

Happy Birthday Linda and Ahmeek to Wakefield
Wakefield, MI.
55 deg. partly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today= high temp. 78 deg. partly cloudy, light SE winds, 30% chance of rain this afternoon.
Happy Birthday, Linda!!!!!! ;-)
Yep, today is Linda's birthday and I sure hope she has a great day. :-)
After pulling me out of my site and hooking CLT to the back of me, we left the Sunset Bay CG near Ahmeek right at 10:00. Even though I didn’t have a sewer hook up, and my tanks were kind of full, Jim decided that he didn’t want to try to get me around to the dump station. There are a lot of trees and some very sharp curves back there and he had doubts if I could get through there without a bunch of jockeying around. So…. We left the CG and headed back on 5 Mile Point Road to US 41, and followed it down to Houghton, where we turned SW on Rt 26. 26 took us to Rockland, where we turned South on US 45. We then followed 45 for about 14 miles until we came to Bruce Crossing, where we turned West on Rt 28. 28 then brought us here to Wakefield and to the Eddy Park, which is at the junction of Rt. 28 and US 2.
Eddy park is a city park and is kind of neat. It’s located on a good sized lake and quite a few sites are located right on the shore. When we got here, (about 12:40), there were only a few vacant sites on the shore and those were either too short for me or were not level enough, so Jim and Linda picked a pull-through site that isn’t on the shore, but still has a nice view of the lake. There’s no shade out here in the middle where I’m parked, but it wasn’t too hot and Jim put out my window awnings, which helped a lot.
So..... it was a nice short travel day and we covered 121 miles in about 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Today we'll continue heading SW towards Linda's brother's house in River Falls, WI. We'll make one more stop before getting there, so I'll be another nice short traveling day.
Did you know that while standing anywhere in the state of Michigan, a person is within 85 miles of one of the Great Lakes?
Happy Birthday Linda.

Getting Ready, Shopping and One Last Sunset Before We Leave
Ahmeek, MI.
61 deg. partly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 76 deg. mostly sunny, 25% chance of showers, NW wind @ 10 to 20 mph.
In the morning, yesterday, Jim did a few things outside to start getting me ready to travel. Then, about 11:30 it started to lightly rain and it rained off and on until about 3:00 or so. Well, Jim and Linda needed to go to a grocery store to pick up some items like milk, lunch meat, some paper towels, and other necessary items, but since it wasn't raining very hard, they took CLT and went ahead and left here a little after 12:00 and headed down to Calumet, to Pat's IGA grocery store. It didn't take to long for them to pick up the things they needed and by about 2:00 or so, they were back here putting everything away.
Later in the afternoon, it quit raining and Jim went back out and finished checking me out for our departure today.
Yep, today, we leave here and start heading towards River Falls, WI to see Linda's brother, Glenn, and his wife, Jeanette. Yeah, I know, Jim and Linda just saw them at the family reunion at the Dells, but it's been a long time since they've been to their house and it will be good to have some one-on-one time to visit without all of the rest of the family around. :-)
Oh, and to blog readers Roger and Joyce, who left a comment the other day on this blog, I'm sorry but we won't be coming to the Ishpeming area this time, but would really like to meet up with you sometime. I'm sure we'll cross paths again. :-)
So...... today, we'll leave here and start heading SW. Again, because we'll be kind of in the boonies, I doubt if I'll have any Internet along the way, so I probably won't be able to post for a few days, but keep checking, You just never know.
Just one more thing. We had another beautiful sunset last night, (That's 6 out of the 7 days we've been here.), and I thought you might like to see a few photos of it that Jim took.
Enjoy. :-)
What a beautiful way to end our stay here at the Sunset Bay RV Resort and Campground. We'll be back sometime. :-)
Did you know that the name Ahmeek is derived from the Ojibwa (Chippawa) language? In Ojibway, amik means beaver.
Wow!! Being that I'm a Beaver motor home, it's no wonder I like it so much up here!! ;-)

Brockway Mountain Drive, Linda Buys Pasties, and Shopping At Swede's
Ahmeek, MI
58 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 76 deg. partly cloudy with a 40% chance of rain this afternoon. W. wind @ 5 to 10 mph.
Sunday, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed for the Brockway Mountain Drive, which is a 9 mile scenic drive that runs atop the spine of Brockway Mountain.
The road and the stone walls along it were built by the Works Projects Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933.
The road is narrow and bumpy in places and there are a few steep grades with switch-backs, but the view from the top is really worth the drive.
The drive ends up just a little ways from Copper Harbor, so they drove into town and found a place where Linda could get some pasties.
No!! No!! Not that kind!!!!! ;-)
There pasties are pronounced past-ees, and are a pastry-dough pocket baked with a filling of coarsely ground meat, potatoes, onions, rutabagas, and sometimes carrots. They were originally made for the miners in the area to take into the mines to have for lunch. They are very popular in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and Lind had been wanting to try one for years, but had never had the chance.
So...... how did Linda and Jim like them? Well, Linda thought they were quite good, but Jim didn't think they were all that great. Anyway, if you get up to the U.P. of Michigan, you might want to try some. You'll have no trouble finding them up here.
Yesterday, Jim and Linda again took CLT and, after picking up their mail at the Post Office in Ahmeek, headed back up to Copper Harbor to do a little shopping. They went to a couple of places but found some really neat gift items at Swede's Gifts. Swede's has many items made by local craftsmen that are made out of copper or other items from the area.
After they were done shopping, they returned along the shore of Lake Superior on the Lakeshore Scenic Drive. This is a nice drive, but CLT says that it would be nicer if you could see more of the lake. Much of the time trees are blocking the view, but Jim and Linda both thought the drive was really nice, and would recommend it.
For dinner last night, they went back to Slim's Cafe in Mohawk. There were two reasons they went back there. First of all the food is good, and second, they have a great selection of bakery goods to choose from. After having the Hot Pork special for dinner, they stocked up on home made bread, peanut butter cookies and apple and blueberry turnovers, before coming back here to watch one of their VCR tapes on TV and play with the computers.
Oh, and I'm sorry to say that last night, we couldn't see the sunset at all. You see, yesterday afternoon, fog developed over the lake and blocked everything out. :-(
Maybe tonight. :-)

Still Catching Up, Weather, Sunsets, and New Friends,
Ahmeek, MI.
This post will get everyone caught up through Saturday. The Wi-Fi service was restored to the CG sometime Sunday night, so I'll do Sunday and probably Monday in my next post.
Ahmeek, MI. – Sunday 7/18/2010
65 deg. mostly cloudy.
Forecast today = high temp. 75 deg. mostly cloudy, chance of showers this afternoon and tonight.
Well, as you will be able to tell when you read this, we still don’t have wi-fi service here at the CG. They, (who ever “they” are), told the people who run this park that the repeater tower would be repaired Friday, but that didn’t happen. :-( So, again, I’m writing these posts on a word processor with the hopes that, as I did once before, I can copy and paste them to blogger when I do get back on line.
The weather here has been great, with high temps in the mid 70’s and lows in the upper 50’s or low 60’s. The only time we had any rain was the first day we got here, and that was only for a short time in the afternoon. This park’s name is Sunset Bay RV Resort, and I’m here to tell you that it sure lives up to its name. We’ve had beautiful sunsets every night since we’ve been here. Jim has taken photos almost every night and my hopes are that I can share some of them with you when I finally do get these entries posted. I guess the only draw-back to the weather has been the wind. Most days it’s been very windy, and in fact Jim hasn’t put out any of my awnings since we’ve been here.
Thursday night sunset
Friday night sunset
Saturday night sunset.
Jim and Linda have been going someplace almost every day. Sometimes they just ride around in CLT and look at the scenery and other times they’ve gone into some of the neat shops in the area where they’ve bought gifts and bakery goods.
Friday evening, they went to Slim’s Cafe in the town of Mohawk, where they had a very nice home-cooked meal, but the other nights Jim has been cooking out on his grill, or Linda has put together something inside of me.
Today or tomorrow, the plan is to take CLT and head up to Copper Harbor. There’s supposed to be a couple of really scenic routes up that way, and I know that there’s a couple of stores that Jim and Linda want to go to.
Oh, and I almost forgot!!!! When we got here there was a couple camped across the street from me in a tent. They were traveling on a motorcycle and Jim noticed that it was a Russian made "Ural" brand. Well, being that Jim used to have a Harley, he went over and started talking to the man. Come to find out, his name is Mike, and he and his wife, Jody, were up here for a vacation and to meet with some friends of theirs who were camped in a travel trailer right along side of me. It's a 2010 model motorcycle and has a sidecar that Jody rides in, and this was their first big trip with it.
After talking for a little, Jim asked them where they were from, and guess what? They're from Champaign, IL!!!! Yep, just a little down the road from the Prairie Pines CG that we stay at in Rantoul!!! And, Mike works in Rantoul!!!!!
What a small world!!!!
Anyway, they are a really nice couple and Jim told them that if they were out for a ride or something, to stop by the CG in Rantoul for awhile. And you know what? I think that they will, since Mike and Jim seemed to really hit if off really well. :-)
Did you know that Lake Superior hold about 3 quadrillion gallons of water?

I'm Back For Now, Lake Delton,Tomahawk, WI, Land O Lakes and Ahmeek, MI
Ahmeek, MI.
56 deg. partly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today High temp. 78 deg. partly cloudy, possible t-storms this evening, W wind @ 5 to 10 mph.
Monday, 7/19/2010
Well, I'm back for now. I'll try to get you caught up as best I can in the next day or so, providing that the Internet stays up. This post will cover the days of our trip up here to the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Tomahawk, WI. – Monday 7-12-2010
54 Deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 80 deg. mostly sunny, NW wind @ 5 to 10 mph.
Well, the weather people on TV were all wet again, but we were nice and dry and not wet like they were saying we were going to be.;-) The rain that they were forecasting just didn’t come and except for some clouds, it was pretty nice when Jim pulled me out of my site and drove me to the dump station to dump 11 days of black and gray water.
By the time my tanks were dumped and we were pulling away from the dump station it was just 10 minutes after 10:00.
From Lake Delton, we headed SE on I-90 to Portage where we took Rt 33 a few miles East to I-39 / US51 where we turned North and followed 39 / 51 up here to Tomahawk and the Tomahawk CG and RV Park, which is right next to and connected to the Tomahawk speedway. The CG is almost empty now, but I’ll bet it gets pretty full on weekends when they’re having races at the speedway.
The trip up here was uneventful. I-39 from Portage to Wasau is in very good condition, but once past Wasau, the road was kind of rough in places, but not too bad. This CG, on the other hand is not the best. Who ever designed the park knew nothing about RVs and how much room they need to get into the sites.
The sites are at a 90 deg angle to the road and not slanted at all, so you just about have to jockey around to back into most of them. Many of the sites are not level, and many are too short to accommodate anything larger than a medium sized trailer. There was no one at the office when we got here, and when the man that manages the park came back, he came to my site, knocked on my door and asked Jim how he had gotten me into site #38?
Jim told him that it wasn’t too hard to get me in here and he had chosen it because it was a full hook-up site and had good shade. The man said that they had never had a 40 MH in this site before, and didn’t think it was even possible!
It was 1:20 when we pulled up to the stop sign by the office, so it took us 3 hours and 10 minutes to travel 167 miles.
A nice easy day. ;-)
We’ll be leaving here this morning and heading further North. I don’t know how far we’ll go, but I doubt if it will be too far. We’re really taking it easy because my reservation at Sunset Bay RV Resort doesn’t start until Wednesday, and we’ve got less than 200 miles to go.

Land O Lakes, WI – Tuesday 7/13/2010
59 Deg. partly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 83 deg. partly sunny. Showers and t-storms this afternoon,
We left the CG in Tomahawk about 11:10 yesterday morning because we only had a short way to go and a long time to get there, ;-) and, we really didn’t want to get to this park before noon. The way it was, we got here at about 12:40, so even though we took our time, it only took us about an hour and a half to travel the 63 miles.
Oh, and I almost forgot!!!! Along the way, Jim pulled me into a gas station and bought me a nice big drink of that good old #2 diesel fuel!! :-)
Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
From Tomahawk, we got onto US 8 and took it NE to Rhinelander where we turned North on Rt. 17. 17 took us up to Eagle River, where we got onto US 45 and took it up here to Land O Lakes, and the Borderline RV Park, which is just 1 ½ mile from the Michigan State Line.
This is a neat little park. Jim and Linda liked the “feel” of the park as soon as we turned in. There are a lot of seasonal RVs here, but the park is well maintained and someone has planted flowers at many different places. When we got here, we didn’t know just where to go, so Jim pulled me over to the side of the park entrance road and got out to check things out. As soon as he got out, a man came over from a 5th wheel and asked if he could be of any assistance. Well, Jim told him that when he had talked to the CG owner a few days ago, he had told him that I should go to site #2. Well, the man from the 5th wheel knew exactly where it was and showed Jim how to get me around to the site.
So, I’m sitting in a pull through, full hook-up site with 50 Amps that is quite level. I have some shade, and the view out of my windshield is of the forest.
I think I like it here too! :-)
Today, we’ll head up to the Sunset Bay RV Resort near the little town of Ahmeek, MI. It’s only about 100 miles from here, but it will be all 2 lane roads with a few cities to go through, so I’m thinking it’ll take me close to 3 hours to get there.
Hopefully I’ll have an Internet connection there.
Land O Lakes WI to Ahmeek MI - Friday, 7/16/2010
65 Deg. clear, 10 to 15 mph winds out of the West.
Forecast today = High temp. 72 deg. mostly sunny, W. winds @ 15 to 20 mph.
We left the CG in Land O Lakes about 9:15 on Wednesday morning because they were forecasting rain and possible t-storms in the afternoon, and Jim wanted to get to our destination and get me into a site before it all started if possible. It was just 111 miles up here by taking US 45 up to Rockland, then 26 over to Houghton, and then US 41 up to Ahmeek, where we turned off on Five Mile Point Road and followed it for about 7 miles until we came to the CG Road, (that is gravel and about .8 of a mile long), here to the Sunset Bay RV Resort & CG.
It was 11:40 when we pulled up in front of the office, so it took us about 2 hours and 25 minutes. And, we beat the rain! :-)
This CG is surely going to be one if Jim and Linda’s favorites. The site I’m in has a great view of the lake, and on the very first night, even though it rained most of the afternoon, we were treated to a beautiful sunset.
The family that’s running the park are very friendly and helpful. They have gone out of their way to make sure everything is to Jim and Linda’s satisfaction, and have said time and time again that if they needed anything, just ask.
There’s only a few sites available that you can get into with a large RV and some of those aren’t very level. This park was built back in the 40’s so they weren’t really concerned about RVs at all, as most of their customers were tenters.
When we got here in Wednesday, I was able to get on the Internet using the CG’s .Wi-Fi for a short time, but later in the afternoon, they were doing some construction work up on the highway, and they evidently damaged one of the repeater towers that this wi-fi uses.
So, the Internet to the CG is completely shut down, and I and a lot of the other people, including the CG owners, are trying to be patient.
I would sure like to publish these posts that are accumulating.
Did you know that at it's deepest point, Lake Superior is 1276' deep?
My next post will be published possibly later on today, or tomorrow morning, if I don't have any more trouble with the Internet. Please excuse any formatting errors as I've had trouble with that when I've copied and pasted from the word processor before.

Howie's, H and H, and Getting Ready
Lake Delton, WI.
62 deg. cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp.78 deg. partly cloudy, N. wind @ 5 to 10 mph.
Yesterday went pretty much as planned. Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to the Howie's Restaurant about 9:45. When they got there, none of the rest of the family were there yet, so they went inside and told the lady that there would be 12 people coming for breakfast. Well, the waitress pulled together a few tables and by the time the rest of the family got there, it was all set up.
They had to wait quite awhile for the kitchen to prepare all of the food, but it really didn't matter too much as it gave everyone another chance to talk. After the meal, (which was very good), it was time for h and h, (hugs and handshakes), before everyone got into their vehicles and headed for their homes.
Jim and Linda decided to come back here for awhile before going to the grocery store. Being that it was cloudy, Jim rolled up my window awnings, put away the water hose, (he had put water into my fresh water tank the other day so the hose wasn't needed any more), and checked my tires.
Then about 12:30, they took CLT and headed down to the grocery store in Baraboo. On the way down there, they stopped at the produce stand and bought some more sweet corn and other things. The shopping at the grocery store went well and by about 2:00 they were back here putting everything away.
After that, they both took naps. :-)
By the time they woke from their naps, it was raining, so it was good that Jim got most of the outside stuff done earlier. The rest of the day was spent getting the inside of me ready to travel, eating a sandwich for their evening meal, watching TV and playing with the computers.
This morning, we'll be leaving the Country Roads Motorhome and RV Park . I've really enjoyed my stay here. It's nice and quiet, the sites are nice and big, the park is very well maintained, the people running the park are very friendly, and the park is close to all the Dells attractions. If you're ever in the Dells area, you might want to give this park a try.
I don't know how much posting on this blog I'll be able to do in the next week or so. Where we're going, there's not any large cities and I'm not counting on having an Internet signal all the time. In fact, the Sunset Bay Resort that we'll be staying at is way out in the boonies and unless their "wireless Internet" service that they advertise works well, I doubt if there will be any other signal. :-(
So...... if you don't here from me, don't worry, I'll get all of you caught up on my adventures just a soon as I can. ;-)
Now, I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you who read this blog. When I started this, it was meant to keep family and friends up to date on my travels, and I never thought so many people would be reading it. I'm really glad that you enjoy reading about my travels, trials and tribulations, and I really enjoy reading any comments that you make.
Thank you. :-)

The Last Full Day Of The Reunion
Lake Delton, WI.
64 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 84 deg. mostly sunny this morning, becoming cloudy this afternoon with a 90% chance of rain. SW wind @ 10 to 20 mph.
Yesterday was the last full day of the reunion. In fact Aaron and his family have already gone back home and Mary and her family are leaving early this morning. The rest of the family will check out of the lodge this morning and then meet at Howie's Restaurant, (which is just a short distance from this CG), for breakfast.
Then there will be h and h, (hugs and handshakes), and the rest of the family will hop on the Interstate and head for their homes. :-(
I'm not real sure what Jim and Linda are going to do after Howie's. They'll either come back here or they may head to the grocery store down in Baraboo to buy food to restock my cabinets and fridge for our journey up into Michigan. If they do come back here after eating, they'll head down to Baraboo this afternoon.
Did you know that Wisconsin Dells was originally named Kilbourn City, (which was founded in 1857) and then changed to Wisconsin Dells in 1931, as the tourist began to come to see the natural landscape of the area?

More Family Photos
Lake Delton, WI.
66 deg. partly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 84 deg. mostly sunny with a possible t-storm this afternoon, W. wind @ 5 to 15 mph.
Jim took the last of the family photos yesterday, and as long as he downloaded them into this computer last night, I thought I'd show them to you today.
This first one is of Linda's sister, Nancy and her son David. (or Fred, as Jim calls him), ;-) David, had an episode when he was a little boy and because of a doctors misdiagnosis, had a lack of oxygen and has permanent brain damage. He is now in his 20's and must have 24 hour care 365 days a year. In fact, Nancy brought 2 nurses along to help.
This next photo is of Nancy's other son, Aaron and his family. They are from left to right, Aaron's wife Debbie, Peyton, Karley, Aidan, Aaron, and Gavin.
These next photos aren't family but I though you might like to see the place where the reunion has taken place.
It's a pretty nice place with huge buildings. All of the buildings have apartments in them with complete kitchens, a living area, and multiple bedrooms and baths.

They also have pools and water parks right in the complex, so if you don't want to go anywhere, there's lots to do right there.
.
If you click on any of the above photos, they should enlarge so you can see them better.
Today is the last full day of the reunion. Tomorrow morning everyone will say their good-bye's and head home. We'll stay here all day tomorrow and then start heading towards Michigan Monday morning. And to honest with you, I'm more than ready to go. Some RVs have come in for the weekend, but for the most part it's been pretty boring just sitting here in this park.
Did you know that the three indoor waterparks at the Wilderness Territory, (which is where the reunion is at), have more square feet of waterpark space than any other resort in America?

Family Photos From The Reunion
Lake Delton, WI.
62 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 83 deg. mostly sunny, NW wind @ 5 to 10 mph.
The weather has definitely improved since I last posted. The humidity has dropped and even though they were forecasting rain for yesterday, it turned out to be a mostly sunny day with temps in the low 80's. Today, tomorrow and most of Sunday is supposed to be nice also, but then they're forecasting rain Sunday evening and into Monday.
Of course Monday is when we are leaving here to head up into Michigan. :-( Oh well, that's a few days away yet, and they may change the forecast by then. :-)
Jim finally got some of the family photos copied onto this computer, so I'm going to bore you with a few today and some more when he gets around to taking photos of the rest of the family.
This first one is of Linda's brother, Glenn and his wife Jeanette.
Then we have Glenn and Jeanette's son Ed, his wife Michelle, and their son Thomas.
This final photo for the day is of Glenn and Jeanette's daughter, Mary, her husband Jeff, their daughter Addison and their little boy, Beckett.
Glenn and Jeanette and all of their family live in River Falls, WI. which is just South of I-94 and about 10 miles or so from the Mississippi River and the Minnesota state line.
Everyone at the reunion is having a great time. During the day they kind of split up and go to water parks or other attractions, but in the evening, everyone gets together for dinner and then they talk and play games until they start getting tired. That's when Jim and Linda come back here and the rest of the family goes to their apartments in the lodge.
Did you know that The Dells of the Wisconsin River (also called the Wisconsin Dells) is a 5 mile gorge on the Wisconsin River in southern Wisconsin noted for its scenic beauty, in particular for its unique sandstone rock formations and tributary canyons?

Really Quiet Here
Lake Delton, WI
70 deg. mostly cloudy, light fog, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 83 deg. mostly cloudy, 60% chance of rain, S. wind S. Wind @ 5 to 10 mph.
Yeah, I'm still here in Lake Delton. It's been really quiet here at the park since Monday when about 75% of the RVs left. I guess most of them were just here for the 4th of July weekend.
Anyway, I've just been sitting here while Jim and Linda go into town to the reunion, so I haven't had much to write about. And, I doubt if much else is going to be going on until maybe Friday when I'm expecting more week-end RVers to be coming in.
The weather hasn't been very good here. We've had rain off and on every day this week and they are forecasting more rain for today and tomorrow.Plus, when it's not raining, the temperatures have been in the 80's with very high humidity.
Jim has been taking a few photos at the reunion. When he gets a few more, I'll start posting some of them.
In the meantime, if you don't here from me, keep checking back. I'll post here as soon as I've got something interesting to write about.

Day One Of The Family Reunion
Lake Delton, WI.
69 deg. cloudy, light rain, S. wind @ 5 mph.
Forecast today = high temp. 80 deg. mostly cloudy, showers and t-storms, S. wind @ 10 to 15 mph.
A good part of yesterday was spent getting everything ready for the family reunion. Linda put together and cooked a rice and broccoli casserole, cut up the 2 melons that they had bought at the produce stand, and baked a cake. Then, she and Jim got the corn-on-the-cob husked and ready to cook, gathered together paper plates, napkins, chips, and all the other stuff to take.
Jim cleaned up the cooler, bought some ice from the CG store and packed it full of corn, grapes, melon and cheese. Then, about 4:00 they loaded everything into the back of CLT and headed to the lodge where the rest of the family had gathered for the reunion.
On the way over there, they stopped at the Culver's Restaurant and picked up 32 pieces of chicken.
Once at the lodge, they found a luggage cart, loaded everything on it and took it all inside. Then it was a matter of reheating the casserole, cooking the corn and putting all the rest of the food out on the counters. By this time, everyone else had gotten settled into their rooms and were ready to eat.
By all accounts, the meal was a great success. Almost everything was consumed and everyone said the meal was really good. :-)
After eating, everyone helped clean up and then they all sat around and visited. Then, most of them played a game of Trivial Pursuit. About the time the game was over, the fireworks started and most everyone went outside to watch the 2 different displays that were visible from the lodge.
By the time they were over, everyone was tired, so Jim and Linda came back here to the CG and watched a little TV until bedtime.

Happy 4th of July
Lake Delton, WI
72 Deg. clear, S. wind @ 10 mph.
Forecast today = high temp. 79 deg. becoming cloudy with a 75% chance of strong t-storms this afternoon, SW winds @ 15 mph with 30 mph gusts expected.
If you have a little time, click on this link. It's Why I Love America narrated by John Wayne. I think most of you Full-timers who have been out here on the road for awhile can really identify with it, and probably have seen many of the places he talks about.
Yesterday afternoon, Jim and Linda took CLT and went to the Market Square Cheese store, located over on the other side of Lake Delton, where they bought a bunch of cheese and some sausage to take to the reunion. Then when they got back they took naps, talked to the neighbors and watched a little TV.
For dinner, Jim cooked a couple of small steaks on the grill while Linda sliced up some tomatoes and boiled some potatoes. Then it was TV again until bedtime.
Oh, and another thing. With all the people here in the Dells area for the weekend, the Internet completely shut down yesterday afternoon and evening. Jim talked to a couple of people here in the park, and they couldn't get on either.
Today, the rest of the family will be getting here for the family reunion. It'll be about 4:00 before they can get into their rooms, so Jim and Linda will be here for a good part of the day, and then they'll go over there and finish preparing dinner while the rest of the family gets unpacked.
Did you know that July 4th was not a federal legal holiday until 1941?

If you still have a little more time check this link. it's Red Skelton's version of the Pledge of Allegiance
Have a great day.

Hunkered Down For The Holiday
Lake Delton, WI
63 deg. clear, S. wind @ 12 mph.
Forecast today = high temp. 86 deg. mostly sunny, SW winds @ 10 to 15 mph. with 33 mph gusts.
About the only thing of note that happened here yesterday was that Jim and Linda took CLT and headed down to Baraboo, and to Pierce's Marketplace. On the way there, they stopped at that fruit stand that I told you about, and bought some sweet corn, a cucumber, 2 melons, a tomato, and a jar of home canned cherries.
They didn't end up buying a huge amount of groceries at Pierce's but a lot of things that they did get required refrigeration, and with my small refrigerator, that created a problem when they got back here and tried to get everything put away. Linda wanted to get the sweet corn in my refrigerator too, but quite a bit of it wouldn't fit, so I hope it'll still be OK for the meal on Sunday.
The CG here is really filling up now. Most of the sites are already filled and I understand that every site will be filled by tonight. This park advertises that they cater to Adults, so there aren't many kids here, and that's OK by me. I like kids, but too many of them on a holiday weekend can get pretty crazy.
If you don't believe it, head to your favorite State Park on a Holiday weekend and check it out.
Today, Jim and Linda are planning on heading over to a cheese store to buy some different kinds of cheese to take to the reunion. That could lead to more problems when they try to get the cheese into my refrigerator when they get back. :-(
And what am I going to be doing, you ask? I'll just be sitting here and watching all the RVs come and go. ;-) I'm just happy to be hunkered down here in this CG and not be out on the road with all of the crazy drivers that are in a hurry to get to their holiday destination, or, if they get too crazy, a hospital. :-(
Did you know that the word ‘patriotism’ comes from the Latin patria, which means ‘homeland’ or ‘fatherland.’?
Have a great Holiday weekend.

IL To WI and Country Roads MH And RV Park
Lake Delton, WI
59 Deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp.84 deg, SW winds @ 10 mph with 25 mph gusts.
We left the CG in Utica at 5 minutes before 10:00, and instead of getting back on I-80, we turned North on 8th Rd instead of South, and followed it for about 5 miles until we came to US 52, where we tuned West for about 2 miles. That brought us to I-39 where we turned North and followed 39 up to and around Rockford and up into Wisconsin. 39 joins up with I-90 at Rockford, so we followed those 2 routes up to Portage, WI. where 39 went North and 90 tuned NW and brought us here to Lake Delton and the Country Roads Motorhome and RV Park.
I was 1:10 when we pulled up to the registration building, so it took us just 3 hours and 15 minutes to travel 181 miles.
For the most part, the roads weren't in too bad shape, except for I-39/I-90 from the Illinois / Wisconsin State line up to Madison, WI. Almost all of that section was very rough with some areas in need of immediate attention. :-( The traffic was very heavy from Rockford all the way up here to the Wisconsin Dells area, but it moved along at a good pace.
I'm sure glad we didn't wait until this weekend to travel. I can only imagine what the traffic will be like. :-(
The Country Roads RV Park is a very nice park. I stayed here 2 years ago and it is still very well maintained and the staff is as friendly as I remembered. Karen checked me in and then led me to site #53, where I'll be staying until the 12th.
As you can see by the photo above, the sites are fairly large and my site has 50Amp electric and a water hook-up, but no sewer, so Jim and Linda will have to be a little conservative.
For dinner yesterday, Jim and Linda took CLT (Cute Little Truck) and went to a Culver's Restaurant where they both had a burger. They had never been to a Culver's before and Linda has been wanting to try one for ages. Both said the food was good, but I don't thing either of them were overly impressed.
Today, Jim and Linda are planning to go grocery shopping. There's a grocery store down in Baraboot that they like and in the past, there has also been a produce stand along the road heading down there that has had some very nice vegetables. The reason they need to get groceries is that since we're the first ones here, and the rest of the family will not be getting here until late afternoon on Sunday, Linda and Jim will prepare a meal for all of the family to have on Sunday evening. That way, the rest of the family can unpack and get settled into their rooms and not have to worry about something to eat after a long travel day.

Rantoul To Utica and No More Itch!
Utica, IL.
54 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 80 deg. sunny, SE winds @ 5 to 10 mph.
After hugs and handshakes, we finally left the Prairie Pines CG in Rantoul about 9:40. I really thought that we should have been on our way much earlier than that, but Jim and Linda ended up talking and having coffee with Paul and Louise. But, I was patient, and because I was so patient, when we left the CG, Jim drove me over to the FS Station (which is on the North side of Rantoul), and bought me a nice big drink of that good old #2 diesel fuel!!! :-)
After my drink, we headed West out of Rantoul on US 136 and took it over to I-74 where we turned NW on it and took it up to the Bloomington area. There, we took I-55 around to the west and then turned North on I-39. 39 then brought us up to I-80, where we turned East and followed it to the first exit and then to the Hickory Hollow CG here in Utica.
We've been to this CG before. In fact almost every year that they've had the family reunion up in Wisconsin, we've stayed here. It's a nice park with level open or shaded sites. Most of them are pull-thru and quite long, so Jim doesn't have to unhook CLT from the back of me, and the sites I've been in, have full hook-ups with 50 amp service. The only real problem is that it's quite expensive and If they didn't honor the Passport America discount, I doubt very much if we would stay here.
Anyway, it was just 12:20 when we pulled up in front of the office, so it took us 2 hours and 40 minutes to stop and get my drink, and travel 122 miles. And, you know what?? My tires aren't itching anymore!!!!!! :-)
Today, we'll be heading up into Wisconsin and to Lake Delton, where I'll be staying for about a week and a half while Jim and Linda go to the family reunion. Oh, I'll see them every night, but they'll be gone during the days. That's OK though, the CG I'll be staying in is very nice, and I'll be quite comfy. ;-)
