Errands and ABC

Hollister, MO.
69 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 90 deg. S. winds @ 15 to 25 mph.

After lunch yesterday, Linda called Sullins RV to see if that toilet pedal cover had come in yet. It hadn't but Rodney said that he was expecting it on the Fed X truck that usually came about 1:00. Well, Jim and Linda decided that instead of just waiting, they would head out to buy a couple of Birthday cards and a loaf of bread, go to the Post Office to mail the cards and pick up their mail, and then go to the ABC Campground before checking back with the Dealer.

While they were doing all of this, Rodney called back and told them that indeed, the part had come in on the truck, and that they could come and pick it up any time. Nice of him to call. Anyway, Jim and Linda were on their way to ABC when he called, so they continued on to the park to check it out. The park was not what Jim expected. It's in a very hilly area, and he didn't think that it really looked much like the photos on their web site.

Now, those of you that are headed for ABC, please remember, this was Jim's first impression. He and Linda didn't go into the office, and they did not see the whole park. Also, remember that what one person likes or dislikes, may be completely different from what other people like or dislike. We'll be heading over there tomorrow, and you never know, it may turn out to be one of the best parks we've ever stayed at.

After going to ABC, CLT took Jim and Linda to the RV Dealer to pick up the part. They had it waiting for Jim at the front desk, and after checking to make sure it was the right one, they headed back here.

If you're ever in the Branson area and need parts or service for your RV, give Sullins RV Sales and Service a call. (417-332-2890). The people there are very friendly and seemed willing to help in any way they could.

Storms? and The Rally

Hollister, MO.
74 deg. mostly cloudy, SE winds at bout 15 mph.
Forecast today = high temp. 83 deg., windy, 70% chance of rain and t-storms.

Well, we didn't blow away. If you listened to the TV weather forecast last night, it was almost a given that we were going to have severe storms during the night. It didn't even rain!!! When will I learn?? Now they're forecasting possible severe storms this afternoon. I wonder, should I believe them this time?

That cover for my toilet flush lever should be in today. Jim said that he was going to call first to make sure. If it did, then he and Linda will head down there this afternoon to pick it up. Then, if we're not getting blown away by storms, they want to check out the ABC Campground where the RV Dreams Rally is going to be held.

The Rally doesn't start until Wednesday, but Jim called the Campground awhile back and made reservations for me to come early, so we'll be heading over there Sunday. Jim and Linda are really looking forward to meeting a lot of the people that they have communicated with on the RV Dreams forum. It should be really interesting to finally put faces with the names. While they're doing that, I get to meet all of the people's RVs. Well, at least the ones that I'll be parked close to. :-)

I'm getting excited!!

Bath and Getting Parts

Hollister, MO.
73 deg. clear, SW winds @ 10 to 15 mph.
Forecast today = high temp. 90 deg. partly cloudy, S. wind @ 15 to 25 mph with gusts 30 to 40 mph.

AAAhhhhhh!!!! That felt good!! Jim got up early this morning, and by 5:45 he was outside giving me a much needed bath! We had traveled in rain off and on ever since Virgina Beach, and by the time I got here, I wasn't so clean anymore. I know Jim was planning on giving me a bath as soon as we got here, but with the storms we had, and temps. in the 90's it just didn't happen. Finally this morning, he decided that he was going to try to do it before it got too hot. It worked!

Yesterday, Jim and Linda took CLT and went about 8 miles South of here, to Sullins RV Sales & Service. Now, I can hear you asking, "Why on earth did they go there?", well, right after we got here, Jim broke the plastic flush lever cover on my toilet. Well, I don't really know if it was his fault, but anyway it broke when he used it, so it needed to be replaced. The toilet was still perfectly usable, but kind of inconvenient to flush. Anyway, he and Linda drove down to Sullins in hopes of getting a replacement. Well, they didn't have one, but were able to order one. It should be there tomorrow.

On the way back, they stopped at the grocery store to pick up some milk for Linda and then came back here and stayed inside for the rest of the day. It's been very humid, and the thermometer on the North side of me showed 93 degrees at one time yesterday afternoon. Whew!!

Photos and Weather

Hollister, MO
70 deg. clear, slight breeze
Forecast today = high temp. 92 deg. humid, S winds @ 15 to 25 mph.

Well, here are a couple of those photos that Jim took the other day. This first one is of the of the office / laundry / activity center. The activity center is fairly new, and is really nice.
This photo is of me in my site. Like I said, the sites aren't too big, but they have quite a few that will accommodate a larger RV.
This shot is of Turkey Creek, which runs right along the rear of the park. There is even a boat launch ramp in the park for those who have boats.
Jim and Linda did go grocery shopping yesterday. They bought quite a bit, but I think, this time, they left some food on the shelves for other shoppers. ;-)

Other than going to the grocery store, neither Jim or Linda did much. Jim did a little outside early in the morning, but by noon, it got quite hot, so he stayed inside most of the afternoon.

I hope it cools down a little next week. It doesn't make much difference to me, but I'm sure the people attending the rally would prefer cooler weather. I know that the heat and especially the humidity bother Jim and Linda quite a bit, and I'll bet there will be some other people there that it will bother also.

Jim says that he's getting spoiled. You see, if you're a full-timer without a schedule, you can pretty much go to where the weather is to your liking. If it is too cold, you can head farther South, or if it's too hot, you can head North or go up in the Mountains. Now, I know this doesn't always work, but for the most part, you can avoid very unpleasant temperatures.

Now, if you have any kind of schedule at all, it's a whole other story! :-(

Weather and Change of Plans?

Hollister, MO.
68 deg. clear, E winds @ 6 mph.
Forecast today = high temp. 89 deg. partly cloudy, S. winds @ 10 to 20 mph.

What's up with this weather?? I know it's spring, and it's supposed to rain some, but this is getting to be too much. Maybe it's because a lot of SE part of the US was very dry last year, and now it's replenishing that moisture, but enough is enough!

Not much happened around here yesterday. Jim did take some photos, and I'll try to get a few of them posted on this blog in the next few days. Today, I think Jim and Linda will be going to a grocery store. I don't think they've been grocery shopping since Virginia Beach, and they're getting low on some things.

Oh, some of our travel plans might be changing for this summer/fall/winter. Like I've said before, Jim and Linda's plans have always been done in pencil, and It looks like Jim is may be getting out that big eraser. We were originally going to head out to Portland Oregon to see Jeff and Heather, after Anna's August wedding down in Florida. Now, this would mean that we would be traveling from a Family Reunion up in Wisconsin, down to Florida, out to Oregon, and then back to Florida by March of 2009 for doctors appointments. An awful lot of miles.

Anyway, yesterday, Jim called Jeff and suggested that maybe he and Linda could send Jeff and Heather money for plane tickets for them to fly to Mike's house in Apex, NC this fall, and we would go there to see them. That way, Jeff would get to see his brother again too.

Now, we still want to go to Portland to see Jeff's and Heather's new, (to them) house. It just would be better if we could go next year instead of this year. We would probably save between two or three thousand miles of travel, and that translates into almost $2000 in fuel savings alone!

Jim has not used that eraser yet. If it won't work for Jeff and Heather to fly to Apex, we may go back to plan A, or maybe there will be a plan C.

I'm sure glad Jim and Linda don't make their plans in ink!

The Big Move, and Shopping

Hollister, MO
68 deg. cloudy, 98% humidity, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 85 deg. becoming partly sunny, humid, 30% chance of t-storms, light winds.

After getting everything packed up for today's trip, Jim fired up my engine and pulled me out of site H-1 at about 10:30 yesterday morning. After getting me turned around, we headed NE until we came to Road D where we turned North and followed D to site 7. After making a right turn into site 7, Jim pulled me to a stop and shut my engine back off at about 10:34. We were on the road about 4 minutes and traveled .2 of a mile. ;-)

I'm now completely set up in a 50 Amp site and I'll be staying here until Sunday, when we'll head over to the ABC Park in Branson, where the Rally is going to be held.

Yesterday afternoon, Jim and Linda took CLT (Cute Little Truck), and headed over to Branson to do some shopping. They picked up one big thing, but I'm not allowed to tell you what it is, because it's a present for someone who might read this blog. On the way back here, they stopped and picked up some KFC for dinner. After dinner, they watched some TV before going to bed.

We had heavy rain here yesterday and again last night. The forecasters on TV are saying that there is a possibility of rain almost every day this week. I was hoping that we would have a few nice days so that Jim could get me cleaned up a little. I'm pretty dirty from driving in the rain on the way over here.

Did you know that this is Narional Bubba Day?

Keep up the good work, Louise.

Mountain View to Hollister, MO and 7

Hollister MO.
68 deg. mostly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 83 deg. becoming partly cloudy, light winds.

After leaving the Mountain Springs RV Park, we continued West on US 60. About 20 miles down the road, we pulled into a Truck Stop and Jim filled me up with #2 diesel. We then continued on to Springfield, where we turned South on US 65. 65 then brought us down here to Hollister, which is just South of Branson. After a little confusion finding the right exit and turns, we pulled into the Escapees Club, Turkey Creek RV Village.

We left Mountain Springs at about 8:30 and arrived here in Hollister at about 11:00, after driving 125 miles.

Upon pulling into the park, I noticed that there were quite a few empty sites, so I thought, there would not be a problem. Well, those empty sites are all 30 Amp, and for a week-long stay, with temps getting up to around 90 degrees, I really need a 50 Amp hook-up so Jim and Linda can run both of my air conditioners at once. Anyway, I'm in a 30 Amp site now, and as soon as a 50 Amp site becomes available, we'll move. In fact, there is a 5th wheel in a 50 Amp site that is supposed to be leaving today.

Turkey Creek is a nice park. Jim and Linda were here a long time ago, and liked it at that time too. It's a smaller park, the sites are kind of close together, there is shade at some of the sites, and like so many of the SKP parks, the people are really friendly. And, if you want to go see some of the shows in Branson, it's just a short drive over there. We will be staying here for 8 days, total, before heading over the the ABC RV Park in Branson, where the RV Dreams Rally is going to be held.

Jim and Linda couldn't decide what to have for dinner last night, so they finally decided to go to a Bob Evans Restaurant which is just a few miles from here. That way, they could both get what appealed to them. When they got back, they watched TV for awhile and then went to bed about 10:30.

About 4:00 AM this morning, I was rudely awakened by some loud claps of thunder, lightning, and heavy rain. It woke Jim up too, and he came out and sat on the couch for a while until the worst of the storm passed. It continued to rain and thunder until about 5:30 this morning, and now the skies are starting to clear a little.

Oh, I'll bet you're wondering about that "7" up there in the title. Well, did you know that 7 years ago today, Jim and Linda moved out of their house and into "Mariah", (their Winnebago Chieftain Motor Home), and started Full-timing?
