Orange City, FL.
33 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 59 deg. clear, NW winds @ 5 to 10 mph.
I'm very disappointed with Florida! No, not the state itself, but the weather it is having. I thought I left the cold temperatures that we had out West behind me, but what are we having down here in Florida? Yep, freezing temperatures!!! I know, I shouldn't be complaining about it being in the low 30's, when the weather up North is in the teens or even lower, but Florida is supposed to be warm!!!
Ok, I got that off my roof!
Now what is that???? Would you believe it?? A garbage truck just came into the park and emptied the dumpsters, and it's not even light outside yet!!! You long time readers know how I feel about garbage trucks coming into a park early in the morning. The dumpster is always at the rear of the park, the trucks roar in and out of the park, and make as much noise as possible when the empty the dumpsters!! All this in an area where anywhere from 20 to 200 RVs are trying to get some rest!! Not to mention all the people inside of them trying to sleep!! There is no reason they have to come into an RV park at this time of day!!!!
Wow! I have to apologize for all the ranting and raving I'm doing this morning. I must have woke up on the wrong side of my site this morning. I'll try to behave.
Not too much happened around here yesterday. Jim and Linda took CLT (Cute Little Truck), and went to a bank to deposit a check and get some cash. On the way back, they stopped at a CVS drug store and picked up a few items. The rest of the day was spent doing little jobs around here, watching TV, and taking naps.
Jim walked over and talked to a man working on his Winnebago Journey MH, about 4 sites from me. He was having trouble getting the MH's slide-outs to work. He said that after checking for voltage and corroded connections, he finally got them to work by banging on the electric motor with a hammer!
Hmmm!
Laura had to work yesterday, but she's off this weekend, so I imagine Jim and Linda will be going over to her house today, or just maybe, she'll come out here to see me. :-)
Did you know that on this date in 1940, the first Social Security check was issued to Ida Fuller for $22.54?

Orange City, Rain, Reservations, and Christmas In January?
Orange City, FL.
56 deg. cloudy, rain, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 61 deg. rain ending this afternoon, NW winds @ 10 to 15 mph.
Yep, drove right into the rain, just like I figured. When we left Old Town a couple of minutes before 10:00 it had stopped raining , but just after we got down to Chiefland and turned SE on Alt. US 27 it started to sprinkle. By the time we got to Ocala, it was raining quite hard. At Ocala we got onto I-75, followed it North for about 5 miles and then took Rt. 326 around the North and East sides of the city, until it brought us to Rt. 40. 40 then took us to Barberville, where we turned South on US 17, which brought us down here to Orange City. All of the way we had rain, and at times it was very heavy.
It was 10 minutes before 1:00, and raining hard, when we pulled into the Orange City RV Resort. So, it took almost 3 hours to travel 140 miles.
Originally when Jim talked to Heather on the phone to make reservations, she told him that we would be in a back-in spot in the rear section of the park, but when he went into the office to register me, she told him that one of the pull-thru sites had become available, so she had saved it for me. Being that it was still raining hard, that was great news. Now, CLT wouldn't have to be unhooked, and I could just pull into the site, and we could wait for the rain to quit before Jim had to unhook him and get me hooked up to the utilities.
Thanks Heather. :-)
After about an hour, the rain let up, and Jim went out and hooked up my electric cord and TV cable and unhooked CLT. The water and sewer connections could wait until later.
After relaxing a little, Jim called Denny, (One of the "Illinois Bunch" who come down here for the winter), to make sure that he and Bev were going to be at the Southern Aire RV Park In Thonotosassa, FL. Well, they are not at the park yet, but will be getting there this Sunday, which is fine, because we'll be here in Orange City for a week, before heading over there to see them.
After talking to Denny, Jim called the park and made reservations to get there on the 5th of Feb. Sandy, the gal in the office said that site 118 was open , so that's where I'll be parked for 2 weeks. It'll be good to see all of the Illinois Bunch again.
In between Jim doing all of this calling, Linda called Laura to tell her we had arrived. Laura said that she was fixing spaghetti for dinner, and invited Jim and Linda to come over about 5:00. Well, they did, had a great meal, and got to see Laura, Lindsey, Ashley, and Anna again. Oh, and they also opened their Christmas presents from Laura and Lindsey.
Kind of nice to get Christmas presents the end of January. :-)

Marianna to Old Town, Rain and More Rain
Old Town, FL
65 deg. overcast, heavy rain.
Forecast today = high temp. 65 deg. rain, Southerly winds switching to the East and then North @ 5 to 10 mph.
It was raining by the time we left Marianna yesterday morning, just a few minutes after 9:00. Jim had decided to leave earlier than normal to try to beat the rain that was coming in from the NW. Well, we almost made it, but not quite. However, I did manage to outrun the rain, and by the time we got to the Tallahassee area, the roads were dry, and we didn't have any more rain the rest of the way. A little past Tallahassee, we turned off of I-10 onto US 19 which brought us down here to Old Town, and the Old Town CG. It was about 12:20 when we pulled into the park, so it took us about 3 hours and 15 minutes to travel 175 miles.
This is an OK park. Again the sites are pretty narrow, but at least they are level. The roads are sand, but well maintained, and the man that checked us is was very nice, and escorted me to my site. I have water, 30 amp electric, and cable TV hook-ups, and there is a dump station on the way out of the park. Oh, I almost forgot the best part. This is a Passport America Park, so my site only cost Jim and Linda $11.77.
Laura called yesterday afternoon, and was wondering where we were and when we would be getting to Orange City. I think she really missed having us down here this year, (especially during the Holidays), and is really eager to see her mom.
I was just checking the radar, and it looks like we may be able to get out of here between rain showers. I would be nice if Jim can get me unhooked from the utilities without getting soaked. The way it looks though, today I will probably be catching up to the rain instead of driving out of it. Oh well, you win some and you lose some. :-)

AL to FL, A Not So Good Park, and Reservations
Marianna, FL.
61 deg. Overcast, light SE breeze
Forecast today= high temp. 68 deg. cloudy, 70% chance of rain, SW winds @ 10 to 15 mph.
We finally left the Rainbow Plantation park about 10:00 and headed into town where Jim bought me another drink of that good old #2 diesel fuel. I wasn't real thirsty, but Jim thought the cost of fuel in Alabama would be lower than in Florida, so he got me as much as I could hold.
From Summerdale, we headed North on Rt 59 until we got up to I-10 where we turned East and took it into Florida, and here to Marianna and the Arrowhead RV Park. I-10 was good all the way, with only a couple of very short construction areas. It was about 1:20 when we pulled into the park, so on the road for 3 hours and 20 minutes and traveled 187 miles.
This park is nothing special at all. In fact, I don't much like it. The sites are not very level, they are narrow, and the roads in the park are all sand. Yesterday afternoon, there were some men working on RVs in the park, moving other RVs around, and they were very noisy. They were talking loud, slamming doors, and just making a lot of noise in general. Very inconsiderate of the RVers staying here in the park.
About 4:30 Jim got out the grill and cooked a ham steak for dinner, while Linda got out some buns to make sandwiches, and some fruit and chips to go with them. Then it was TV time until after the news, when they went to bed.
The weather doesn't look too good for travel today, but we need to keep heading towards Orange City. You know, this is a prime example of why Jim and Linda hate to make reservations at RV parks. In order to assure a site at the park in Orange City, Jim had to call and make a reservation. He told them that we would be there Thursday, so now, even if the weather is nasty, we have to continue to travel. We are locked into a schedule, and as far as I'm concerned, that's not good! Yes, I know, Jim could call and change the reservation, but unless it's an emergency or I have a breakdown, he really doesn't feel right doing that.
Oh well, maybe the weather will cooperate, and not be too nasty.

More Fog, Good Friends, and Arrrrggghh!!!!!!
Summerdale, AL.
54 deg. light fog, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 72 deg. partly cloudy, S. winds @ 5 to 10 mph.
The fog we had yesterday morning, burned off fairly early, and I'm hoping that it will do the same this morning. Although it doesn't seem as thick here today, they ae saying that in some areas, the visibility is down to 1/4 mile.
Well, I'm pretty much ready to go. Jim put water in my fresh water tank yesterday afternoon, drained my gray and black water tanks, put away water and sewer hoses, and rolled up and checked all of my awnings. Now, about the only thing left to do outside, is to disconnect the electric cord and put it away. Of course after Jim pulls me out of the site, he'll have to hook CLT up to the back of me, but that only takes him about 5 minutes.
I don't know where the time went this last week. Jim and Linda wanted to get together with Darrell and Judy, and Randy and Terry again while we were here, but for one reason or another, it just didn't happen. So, yesterday afternoon, Linda called Darrell and Judy to see if they would be interested in going out to eat last night, and to ask Randy and Terry too. Well, they weren't home, so Linda left a message on their voice mail. About 3:00 Darrell and Judy rode up on their bicycles, and came in to visit for awhile. They said that they had plans for dinner, but they were going over to social hour at 4:00. They also said that they thought Randy and Terry also had other plans for dinner.
Anyway, to make a long story a little shorter, they stayed and visited until a little before 4:00 and then everyone went over to the Clubhouse for social hour. After that, it was handshake and hug time, and then Jim and Linda went into town and had a bite to eat, before coming back here to watch TV.
It was sure great to meet Darrell, Judy, Randy and Terry. Jim, Linda, and I follow their blogs every day, and after awhile, you feel like you know them, but don't really know what they look like. Now, we can put faces to their posts.
Also, Jim and Linda want to thank both couples for their hospitality while we have been here at Rainbow Plantation. Even though they didn't get to spend much time with them, it was great to meet them and get to know them better. Hopefully, they'll be able to get together again in the future.
OK, now when are we going to get out of here? Like I was afraid of, my tires are driving me crazy!! I suppose it will be 9:30 or 10:00 before we leave. I hope I can stand it that long!!!! Arrrrggghh!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Blah Day, My Tire Condition and Fog
Summerdale, AL.
52 deg. fog, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 70 deg. becoming partly cloudy this afternoon, E. winds @ 5 to 10 mph.
Overcast, misty, cool. That's what the whole day was like yesterday. A real blah day. On top of that, neither Jim or Linda felt like doing much, so about the only thing accomplished was that Linda did a load of laundry in my washer/dryer.
As for me, I'm starting to get that itchy tire condition again. I know, we haven't been here all that long, but I guess they're getting itchy because I'm wanting to get to Orange City so I can see Laura and her family again.
You know, I was thinking, it seems like the closer you get to a destination, the faster you want to get there. (Does that make sense?) I just know that the next couple of days will seem to drag on forever while I'm traveling to get there. Today will probably be the worst. Jim will check my tires, fluid levels, awnings, and put away water and sewer hoses. Then, I will have to just sit here for another night, waiting for tomorrow morning to come, and then waiting for Jim and Linda to get ready to go. By the time they get ready to travel, my tires will be itching so bad that I'll hardly be able to stand it!
Pure agony!
Wow!! It's just starting to get light out, and the fog is really thick!! I don't like thick fog. When we're traveling, I'm always afraid that I'll run into something on the road. One good thing though, being that we're full-timing and not on a tight schedule, we can pull into a parking lot or something, and wait for the fog to clear, or, just stay in a CG for awhile and wait it out there. I hope it's not foggy tomorrow morning when we're wanting to leave here. That surely will not help my tire condition!
Did you know that one of the foggiest land areas in the world is Point Reyes, California, with over 200 foggy days per year?

Shopping, Need To Stock Up? and OddTaste
Summerdale, AL.
52 deg. overcast, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 58 deg. mostly cloudy, 30% chance of light rain, light Northerly winds.
It was cloudy and cool yesterday, so not many people were out and about here in the park. Jim and Linda went to the Winn-Dixie Grocery store down in Foley in the afternoon, and bought some items that they haven't been able to get since we left the area last August.
What kind of items is he talking about, you ask? Well, one of the main things that Linda likes, is Winn-Dixie's diet grape soda. For the most part, you can't even find diet grape anywhere else, and if you can, Linda says it doesn't taste good. Then, there's cheese popcorn. Do you know that no one West of the Mississippi River seems to sell cheese flavored popcorn? At least Jim and Linda weren't able to find it. That's just 2 examples, but there are more items that are not available out West. Now, I'm sure there are items you can get in the West, but not in the East too. I guess my point is, that when you are traveling across the United States, don't be too sure you'll always be able to get an item that you really like. If it's a small item, and you just can't live without it, you might want to stock up.
I'm sure glad that good old #2 diesel is available wherever we go. I do think that the fuel I got in California and Oregon tasted a little odd though.
