An Update and What If You Have Problems?

Orange City, FL.
47 deg. mostly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 76 deg. partly sunny, NE winds @ 5 mph.

First of all, I want to catch all of you up on what I know about the lady who fell and broke her arm. Jim talked to some of her friends that are still here in the park, and this is what he found out.

She is now at her daughter's house and after going to her own doctor, they have determined that they don't think the break is quite a bad as originally thought. After the swelling goes down, they will re-evaluate and decide what to do, weather it will be surgery or or some other procedure. Her friends have taken her MH back to her house, (about 30 or 40 miles from here), and it will be waiting for her when she gets home. So, she is now in good hands, staying with family, and we're hoping she has a speedy recovery.

I know some of you who are reading this blog are not yet full-timers, but are working towards that goal. It's only normal to have concerns about what you would do if you become sick or have and accident while you are thousands of miles away from family or friends. Well, don't be too worried about it because I'm here to tell you that RVers are some of the greatest people you will ever know. In my travels I have seen people get sick, hurt, or just need help doing something and there were always other RVers, (complete strangers), that came to the rescue. You will find that especially other full-timers will help you if you have problems, because they realize that some day, they may have a problem and need your assistance.

It's kind of an unwritten code that RVers have, and I have seen it put into action many times.

Jim and Linda went to Winn Dixie yesterday and bought some groceries. They didn't need a real lot, but were out of some some essentials. For dinner, Jim cooked a couple of burgers on his grill, and Linda made salads to go with them. Then, they watched TV until bedtime.

Testing, A Lady Falls and A Surprise Visit

Orange City, FL.
40 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast today - high temp. 67 deg. partly cloudy, light N. winds.

As soon as it warmed up a little yesterday, Jim went out and tried out that new air compressor he bought. First he aired up all of CLT's tires and then he gave it the big test and aired mine up. You see, I need to have 115 lbs of air in my front tires, and it takes a pretty good compressor to pump pressures that high. Well, I'm here to tell you that the compressor came through with flying colors and did a fine job. After he finished with my tires, Jim even pumped up his bike's tires before putting everything away in the back of CLT.

Isn't it nice when something works as advertised?

Just after Jim finished, he heard someone call out from across the street. .When he looked outside, he saw that a lady was laying on the ground by her MH, so he ran over there. By the time he got out to the street, there was another man trying to help her up. Jim asked if they needed help and the man said they did, so he went on over and helped get the lady up and sitting at the picnic table. From what Jim said when he got back here, she had slipped as she was going into her MH and had fallen. Her arm was hurting real bad, and she said she thought it was broken. Soon some of her friends were there to help her, so Jim came back here.

Later, Jim talked to one of her friends and found out that they had taken her to the hospital and found out that she had a spiral fracture of her arm. They kept her there and are going to have to do surgery on it this Monday.

That's too bad, I hope she'll be OK.

After lunch, Laura called and said that she and Lindsey were out and about and would like to stop by for awhile, if Linda and Jim weren't busy. Linda told her that they weren't so they stopped by and everyone sat outside under my awning and talked for about 45 minutes.

What a nice unexpected surprise! :-)

After they left, Jim came in and took a little nap while Linda read. For dinner, Linda heated up the left-over vegetable casserole and turkey from the Thanksgiving meal. Then, they watched TV. read, and played with the computers until bedtime.

Did you know that the Grand Ole Opry debuted on this date in 1925? It is the longest running music show, celebrating it's 75th anniversary in 2000.

The Feast

Orange City, FL.
44 deg. (and dropping), clear, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 63 deg, sunny, NW wind @ 5 to 10 mph.
.
By the time Jim and Linda left here to go to DeLand yesterday morning, the skies had cleared and it was turning out to be a beautiful day. It's only about 9 miles to Marv and Inez's house and it was about 10:30 when they arrived.
.
Inez was dressed in her pilgrim outfit and getting everything ready for the big dinner when Jim took the photo of her in the kitchen. From what I can gather, it was a full house by the time Laura, Lindsey, Ashley, and Lindsey's 3 brothers and their families arrived.
.
Many of the families brought food to contribute to the meal, (Linda brought a vegetable casserole and some cranberry bread), and after it was all assembled, it was time to carve the guest of honor. ;-)

Marv did the honors and soon everyone was giving thanks and enjoying a great meal.
.
After eating way too much, it was time for relaxing, good conversation and watching football on TV.
.
Jim and Linda would like to thank Marv and Inez for inviting them to their house for this great feast. They had a great time and really enjoyed being with them and their family on this Holiday.
.
It was about 3:00 when CLT brought Jim and Linda back here to the park. Inez had given them some of the left-over turkey, ham, and deserts, so they had to put that away first, but then it was time for naps. After their naps, they watched TV and then made turkey and ham sandwiches out of the left-overs for a small evening meal.
.
A very good day with so much to be thankful for.

Where And When To Go For "Black Friday" Sales

Orange City, FL.
64 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast tonight, Low temp. 41 deg. clear, NW wind @ 5 to 10 mph.

I know, I already posted to this blog this morning, but I've been sitting here taking notes for all of you to use tomorrow morning. So....in order to get them to you before it's too late, I'm posting now.

OK here goes, I hope you'll find this info useful.

Old Navy stores open and start their "Black Friday" sale at 3:00 AM tomorrow morning.

After you're finished shopping there, you can head to Kohl's or Bealls because they start their sale at 4:00 AM.

After you've shopped there you'll want to head to Best Buy or Target as their sale starts at 5:00 AM.

Now, you'll want to hurry at those two stores because Radio Shack opens at 5:30 for their sale, and you don't want to be late.

After Radio Shack, you can head to just about any store you want to, because by that time, all the stores will be open and waiting for your business.

And you thought I just sat here and didn't do anything when I wasn't traveling!! ;-)

Did you know that "Black Friday" is not the busiest shopping day of the year? The busiest day is usually the Saturday prior to Christmas.

A Lot To Be Thankful For and Back To Sears

Orange City, FL.
57 deg. overcast, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. 73 deg. becoming partly cloudy, NW winds @ 5 to 10 mph.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!!

Besides having a happy Thanksgiving, I hope all of you take a few moments to think about all the things you have to be thankful about. I know I have many things, and I'll bet you do too. :-)

OK! Now I can hear you asking, "What in the world does a Motor Home have to be thankful about?" Well..... here are just a few of the things I'm thankful for.

I'm thankful that throughout the years I've always had someone who took very good care of me. I'm thankful that I am in a free country where we can travel wherever we want, when we want. I'm thankful for good old #2 diesel that I get to drink, the mostly good roads I get to travel on, the great parks that I get to stay in, the many RVs that I've made friends with during our travels, my mechanic that helps keep me healthy so I can keep traveling, but most of all, I'm thankful that Jim and Linda are full-timers and we travel almost all of the time, which means I don't have to sit in a storage lot somewhere for part of the year.

Yep, lots to be thankful for. :-)

Yesterday, Jim took CLT and went back to the Sears store and picked up that new Air Compressor he ordered awhile back. It was raining when he got back here, but later in the day the rain stopped and he was able to get it out of the box and get it set up. The way it looks, it should do the job nicely and it even pumps enough pressure that Jim should be able to use it to fill my tires.

Today, Jim and Linda will take CLT and go to Marv and Inez's house in Deland. Marv and Inez are Lindsey's parents and always invite Jim and Linda to come to their family dinner when we are here at Thanksgiving time. They're great people and Inez is a great cook, so I'm sure Jim and Linda will come back here completely stuffed! ;-)

Again, here's wishing all of you a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Oh, and I almost forgot......I'm also very thankful for all you who read this blog.

Did you know that the first Thanksgiving celebration lasted three days?

A Nice Day, Cable TV Surge Suppressor and Be Carefull

Orange City, FL.
66 deg. overcast, light fog.
Forecast today = high temp. 77 deg. cloudy, 80% chance of widespread showers and t-storms, N. winds @ 10 to 15 mph.

Rain was in the forecast yesterday, but we never saw any around here. In fact, it turned out to be a very nice day, and Jim spent quite a bit of it outside doing things like talking to neighbors, riding his bike, and making up a couple of short cable TV coax cables so that he could finally hook up the coax surge suppressor that he bought from Radio Shack when we were in Virginia Beach.

You see, one time when we were down here in FL. there was a very severe t-storm and I got a big surge of electricity through the cable TV service. It burned out my TV/VCR distribution box, and also burned up the circuit board in my rooftop antenna. Luckily, it didn't damage my TVs or the VCR. Well, Jim didn't want that to happen again, so he found this surge suppressor that plugs into an outlet. It has 2 regular 120 volt surge protected outlets plus in and out connectors for a coax cable.

Any of you who are using cable TV might want to consider a surge suppressor. I can tell you from experience that it will cost you a lot more to replace the head on your TV antenna and/or your distribution/booster box than the $20 or $30 for a good suppressor.

Oh, and by the way, the cable company will tell you that their system is protected and you will not get a surge through their system.

Don't believe them!!!!

Well, tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I want to wish all of you a Happy Holiday and urge all of you to please be careful while traveling during this holiday season. There are a lot of people out there that are distracted on one way or another and not thinking about their driving. They are in a hurry to get last minute things from the store or to get to "Aunt Mary's" house for dinner.

Please be careful. I don't want to lose any of my followers! ;-)

Did you know that the first Thanksgiving feast was held in the presence of about ninety Wampanoag Indians? They were the people who taught the Pilgrims how to cultivate the land.

Dinner At Laura and Lindsey's and No Plans

Orange City, FL.
64 deg. scattered clouds, no wind.
Forecast today = high temp. mostly cloudy, 40% chance of rain this afternoon, NE wind @ 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday afternoon, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to Laura and Lindsey's house in DeBary. Laura had called earlier and told Linda that Lindsey was going to cook brats on the grill and invited them to come on over. Linda made up a fruit salad to take over there and Laura had chips and dips and a lettuce salad.

Yesterday, not much happened around here. Jim serviced all my batteries, (added water and cleaned them up), Linda wasn't feeling too well, so she didn't do a whole lot, and the day kind of just slipped by.

I don't think there are any real plans for today either. Laura is working so they won't be seeing her today, (she works a 12 hour day), and it's supposed to rain this afternoon, so I imagine the day will be spent doing little things inside of me.

Oh well, every day can't be exciting. :-)

Did you know that according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 45 million turkeys are cooked and eaten in the U.S. at thanksgiving?
